On Friday driving back from work, when I started my car dash went dead except for radio outside temperature was about 27f, no blower, no navigation nothing for about 5 minutes, I started to drive towards dealer and in 5 minites the navigation starts up and no problem after that.

Do you think this will be cause of low outside temperature? < 27f

It's been as cold if not colder around here (NY tri-state) and I haven't seen problems like that.

When your screen and ac controls go dead, it's usually a blown fuse or a loose connection behind the dash... happened to me once and it was one of the fuses under the hood.

If it took them 4 weeks to figure this out, I suggest you never take your car back there.

This is literally a 5 minute fix, with the most time spent taking everything apart and putting it back together.

it wasn't that it took 4 weeks for them to figure out, it took maybe 3 weeks to get a new wiring harness since they don't make them besides at the factory assembly line, so they had to get an extra from a new car being made. it also short circuited the fuel monitor or something, i dunno

My screen and hvac controls did that a couple times last year but it was intermittent and happened once when I was parked in my heated underground parking garage at work. I don't think it was related to the temperature. One day when it was about -35C my screen displayed a message that the hard drive would resume normal function when it reached a normal operating temperature.

Garbage... don't go back there again.

When I had my last round of electrical problems because of a cut wire between the engine bay and the meter, it took the service guys the whole of 4 hours to figure it out. Then they said it they could get a new harness overnight or they could run a new wire along the same harness to bypass the spliced one, and they did everything in a day.

Almost every component in the car can be ordered by a service department for overnight delivery. 2-3 days at the most if it's something "rare" or so big that it needs freight. I know, seeing how I've ordered so much crap from the service guys and I've had so many self-induced funkiness happen to my car.

Bottom line, if you're in a major accident it doesn't take a dealership 3 weeks to get replacement components... even if it takes them a week to diagnose, it shouldn't take more than a week to get the parts delivered and installed. Or at least that's what I've seen when I deal with dealerships here in the NorthEast.

Exact same thing happened in my G35x. See this posting:
