But sometimes I read the gripes about the G, and think that apparently I have no idea what I should care about in a car. Because it doesn't really bother me that:
I walk out to the G, admire it on the way, unlock it and push the button to start without bothering to take out my key. The seat and steering wheel move to meet me, the exhaust growls quietly, and when I slip it into gear I have a choice of a great auto, or choosing my own with paddles or the shifter. Merging or passing is effortless, the ride is firm but not harsh, and cornering produces satisfying G-forces (pun intended) as it rotates - plus it stops RIGHT NOW when you hit the brakes.
Again, this isn't meant as a slight to those who have complaints, but I think the car is beyond great.
Peace
But sometimes I read the gripes about the G, and think that apparently I have no idea what I should care about in a car. Because it doesn't really bother me that:
- The heated mirrors require turning on the rear defroster
- The engine doesn't feel smooth above 5k, and in fact feels like it's working as you wind it out
- The doors don't lock when you drive away (I don't like this anyway)
- The lower door panels are apparently cheap-looking and I hadn't noticed
- Batteries in things like key fobs sometimes wear out
- There have been TSBs for the car already
- And the throttle is sorta touchy

Regards,
I have never noticed the touchy throttle myself, but then I drive with a prosthetic leg, using that foot for the gas!
Edit: Okay, I had to go out for something, and as I'm driving, and perusing my car, I find there is nothing that I dislike about the '07, the car is just great. I don't feel the touchy throttle at all, and the other things, interior, it's great! I also don't see the "weak" paint, I didn't notice on my past G's either, it compares well to all the other vehicles I've had, actually even better. Paint will scratch and chip no matter, now, if the paint were to crack or peel, like GM was always known for, that would be different.

Did I say that the cheap plastics on the lower end of the doors bother me? No (pssst...its also along the sides of the center console, but thats extremely hard to notice as you'd have to put your hand down between the seats, good move by Infiniti to save money in a place where hardly anyone would notice). Like I said, the only way I know this is because I noticed it when I first cleaned the interior of my car. Its not like I screamed in horror, just pointing it out.
In fact, I commend Infiniti, we have a sense of how these cars are cheaper than their competitors (aside from the fact that Nissan designed the chassis to be extremely flexible so you can amortize the cost over several different models without the adverse affect of "rebadge engineering"). Are any of their cost cutting of any inconvinience to me? No, its not like they made their entire dash cheap, the quality of the dash is quite nice IMO. The only cost cutting that adversely effects the owner is the paint quality. I've a lot of random small scratches anyway...although its nothing that can't be buffed out so thats a plus.
LIke I said, its our hard earned money and we used it to buy our cars. If no one ever complained about the previous gen's interior...you think Infiniti would've bothered making such leaps and bounds to upgrade it for the new gen? I didn't think so. No car is perfect, and its human nature for people to point out the imperfections, companies take note and improve upon them in upcoming generations. My friend has a Bentley Flying Spur and there are things about that car that I'm not a fan of, and I haven't even gone over it inside and out to find little things.
If no one complained about the touchy throttle (something that doesn't bother me), you think Infiniti would've taken the time to fix that for the '08 model? If no one complained about the iPod integration issues in the '07, you think they'd of fixed that for the '08 models? Its all constructive critism and I see no reason for people to get upset or defensive just because their car isn't absolutely perfect (no car is, no matter how much you pay for it)...now if only they made a few more adjustments to the lockout features that comes with the navi.....
Pointing out faults is the only way a car company knows how to make something better. No one is on here saying "Oh, this car has *insert random small imperfection*, this thing sucks".
We bought the car because the value and satisfaction we get far outweigh the cons of the vehicle. Even as the owners find more peeves about the vehicle, that in no way implies that anyone is getting tired or annoyed with the car, unless of course they explicitly say so.

They complain about the doors not locking when the car goes past a certain speed. Some people like it, some people don't. Also with the fact that they can't turn the heated mirrors on with a seperate switch than the rear defroster and more of what the OP stated.
I'm sure Infiniti knows what's going on with other cars makes/brands and what they're putting in the cars due to competition. I'm absolutely positive that they have people who think of what to improve on and as well as to fix problems. Although they listen to the consumers and try to improve what they have, they can't base their production on consumer's wants.
If the criticism is about actual technical problems which causes trouble or depreciates the value, I would complain. (Stuff like the brakes on the first gen and our weak paint.)

Nothing made by human hands will be perfect or flawless. NOTHING. Every vehicle will have something wrong with it. And given how many parts go into today's cars, it's a blessing that they don't break down more often. I don't own a G35 (yet), but I have a '95 G20 with 275,000 miles. Would you like to know about all my gripes about it?
I understand that when a person spends a major portion of their $$$ on anything, they want to feel like they got the best that their money can buy. So I can see why some people are so quick to point out the few minor faults in their car.
Bingo. And even those owners have their gripes as well.

I also dislike the location of the push start...having it located on the center console is an awkward place for it.

There was a thread about things that could be better and IMO there is some cheap looking plastic and some finish issues ( gaps and trim not lining up ) with the interior. Take a look at BMW, MB, or Lexus if you want to see better fit and finish.
If the G wants to compete with the big boys then they need to improve the interior some.
Having said that I have just got rid of a BMW for the G and overall I am very happy with it.

And - cycling thru the "MODE" button turns the A/C on (and it does not turn it back OFF) (or is this just MY car?) Thats it, my only gripe. Everything else is PERFECT.
