Still worth it to buy a 2007 6MT?

Hi everyone. First let me say that I have been researching relentlessly for 3 months now, and I can't wait any longer to get my G35. I read these forums almost every night, and you guys are awesome.

Since this is the right time of year to score a deal, I would like to pull the trigger in the next couple of days if I can.

My problem is that I can't quite afford a brand new G35S 6MT with all the options I want (which is pretty much every option). My local dealer has one last 2007 left. Luckily for me, their last one is a fully loaded Sport 6MT, which has been their last one for almost a month now. I'm hoping that there will be a nice opportunity here for me to get a great deal on a new car that I previously thought was out of my league.

Do you guys think that it's a good idea to try this? I read a thread around here previously that talked about how it is never a good deal to buy the old model new, but this might be my only chance to get a new car. Used 6MTs are really hard to find in the 07 model. The differences between 07 and 08 are not a big deal to me at all either. Since I can still take advantage of 3.9% for 60 months on the new 07, I'm thinking I should try to work it. What price should I shoot for? Any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Go for it!

Pros:
-Get a good deal on a last model year G.
-Aftermarket parts selection will be greater and many of them have come down in price.
-The 2007 model will be pretty solid as most of the kinks and issues have been resolved over the last 4-5 years.
-G35 IMO still a HOT car.

Cons:
-New G37 model is out.
-Less HP/Torque
-Less structural rigidity
-The new G37 interior fit/finish is in line with the other Infiniti models.

Good Luck!

The only real diffence between an 08 and a 07 is the lack of ipod intergration in the 07. The 08 is supposed to have a smoother engaging clutch and some damping for the vibrating shifter.

Drive an 08 and 07 - 6 speed back to back and then make your decision.

If you can live with these quirks go for it. There is a lot of money to be saved on a vehicle that is going to depreciate anyways.

that alone would make me buy it...

I could be wrong, but isn't the OP asking about the G35 sedan, since we are in the sedan forum? Your answer seems to be directed toward the coupe.

OP - if the 2007 model is truly loaded (meaning it has the technology and premium packages) then it's basically the same as the 2008. In 2008 they moved the backup camera and ipod integration from the "technology" package to the premium package. This is what the salesman told me.

I would start with $400 under invoice and work from there. The dealer is obviously having problems selling this car if it's been on the lot for a month and most buyers don't want a 2007 when the 2008 is available. I would definitely not pay more than invoice, since the dealer is going to make money on the financing anyway. Good Luck!

I actually read that they updated the clutch and transmission on the 2008 6MT because of the complaints.

i would only do it if it is significantly under invoice, read the long thread on negotiated prices, people have been getting under invoice for the 08's, so for a year old model, they better be giving a hell of a deal....

I got my '07 Sport Auto in August for invoice out the door, and that was in August. Granted I had a good relationship with the guy that sold it to me, and I went in throwing around near-invoice numbers for a G37 before he offered what I really wanted

You can try that approach, but all of that, and if it's absolutely loaded, I say jump all over it. There will likely be parts released to make the iPod kit work in the 07 anyway, if that's even of your concern.

Thanks for the responses you guys. I don't really care all that much about the iPod integration anyway, which is why I'm considering it. I guess I will just have to play hardball and see where it gets me. I'll keep you updated...

TMV/Edmunds.com says that an 08 Invoice is $35,472 for what you want. I would tell them you want that G35 for around $32,000 out the door...see where they go from that - if it's an 07, they shouldn't scoff too hard.

I would recommend you go for the 08, because there is only a $200 price increase in the base prices, and XM became standard.

Also, promotional financing is only available on the 08 MY.

my $.02

This particular dealer already confirmed that they would give me the 3.9% rate on the 2007.

It depends on how much you care about resale. The dealer needs to give you a rockin' deal below invoice (at least a grand?), and then you buy it knowing you're taking a hit on resale value. The problem is that you're paying close to new prices for a car that (for resale value) becomes a year old as soon as you drive it off the lot.

That said, if you're not that worried about resale, and you like the car - hey, it's a brand new G!

This really depends on where you live and how the market is for the G35 in your area. In So Cal, where 08s can be had for at or below invoice, I wouldn't buy an 07 unless they were offering it for significantly less than invoice. After all, the car has a year of depreciation and 6MTs are harder for the dealer to sell (probably why it's still sitting on their lot). So they should be pretty motivated to get rid of it.
