Tip tronic shift at high RPMz
Tip tronic shift at high RPMz
Is it just my car...or does anyone else's do the same thing?...Im gunning it in first gear while being in "manual mode"..and once I reach about 7 or 8k rpm the car feels like its saying.."okay, thats enough...put it in 2nd already!" It really feels like it dies down a bit and revs over and over again without much torque. I was hoping it would just let me keep going and going...but there must be some sort of limiter in preventing you from going past a certain RPM band. Anybody have an answer for this...or have a similar issue?
Yes, like 99.9% of all modern cars, yours has a rev limiter to protect the engine from disintegrating... but it's still a bad idea to rev the engine up to the limiter. You should shift at ~6400 RPM or so.

No problem, and remember it has nothing to do with the shifter, it's a function of the engine computer (ECU) to keep the engine from getting damaged at extremely high RPMs. You'll find this feature on manuals, autos, and manumatics of virtually every make and model.
