What does i-pod interface really mean?

The premium package for '08 includes an i-pod interface, but even without premium there is still an AUX jack, which I am assuming I cam plug my i-pod into. So what exactly does the interface do?

the iPod interface is a dedicated iPod connector, that lets you control your iPod with the car's controls. It also charges the iPod (and iPhone if you happen to have that)

So I can use the infiniti controller on the dash to navigate through the iPod menus and see them on the car's video display?

Any word on getting this for the 07s? I had heard of rumours of it in the past. I would love to get this funtionality.
