Birds Eye versus Map View in Nav System Preferences

I like it because it gives you a "preview" to where you are heading. Whereas in map view, you can't tell what's up the road. If you zoom out, you lose some local roads.

Of course, that's just for me, different people, different brain wiring

Me too
normally, when I use the GPS, I'll plug in the address, following the directions, and I'll have it in my brain how to get there, what direction it is, what to do with detours, etc etc. I don't think I've used the navigation guidance for the same address twice.
However, when I was in LA visting my grandmother, the GPS unit in the rental car only had heading up (this was one of the old hertz neverlost systems). There was no option for north up. For an entire week, I drove from the hotel to her house (about 4 miles) and I couldn't do it without guidance because I could'nt get my bearings. The GPS was throwing me off.
That's when I learned anything but north up, and I get confused.
