well after doing a search i found some more info on this. it doesnt sound so much like a "whoosh" as some people have described. its more like a handful of bb's in a soda can, but not that extreme. as i mentioned its only heard under part throttle with moderate acceleration. not at light accel, and not at wfo either. could almost sound like a heat shield vibrating at just right rpms or something. it would be great if someone who actually had this addressed by the dealer confirm what this noise is. i dont mind the engine being noisier than others, but this doesnt sound like just a noisy engine to me. i had a 3.5altima se a few years back and although its not quite the same as this one it was still a vq35 and it didnt make a sound like this. i think ill call the dealer, but i already know what they will say. " you will have to bring it in and leave it" then when i go to pick it up they will say " we werent able to duplicate what your describing and everything seems to be running fine". ill end up leaving aggravated with no answers and inconvienced for having to leave my car for a day.

I'll see if I can find thread. Lots of theories from heat shields to valve pressure changes in transmission during acceleration. I have sound too, but I have accepted as the nature of the beast. Actually I kinda like the sound.

EDIT: A few threads that may help you.

thanks man.. i actually read those threads already. above i described it as a soda can full of bb's, but now that im listening more closely the rattle is very faint and i can see why people describe it as more of a whoosh. even though i wouldnt call it a whoosh type sound, it still sounds funky.. i wish it didnt make it, but i guess it is what it is.

I had this same issue checked at the dealer (edit: Denville Infiniti, NJ) about a year ago. They confirmed it's a normal sound, but didn't explicitly tell me what it was. When I brought the car in, my explanation of the noise was a loose heat shield in the exhaust - that's pretty much exactly what it sounds like.

I'm under warranty, so I'm not too concerned, but it would be nice to have an explanation for it.

yeah, i figured its pretty normal so im not going to be concerned about it although i wish i did know exactly what it is. glad you brought it to the dealer and asked them though. that is kind of what i was looking for.
