From my previous post, I went and test drove the manual sport version today. My *** is a bit too wide for the seats. I'm not fat, but pretty tall and big, 6'6 and 250. I felt like I was sitting ON the side bolsters. I also found the transmission to be very notchy and kind of a bugger to shift in and out of gear. Seems more like a race trans than street. Other than that. . .cool car.
So, I decided on the auto. Because I'm tall, I need to get the no sunroof version. Of course this limits me to either the base or the Journey.
My main question is this, if I have to order the car, should I go with the dealer that gives me the most off the MSRP? The dealership about 30 miles from me will do $2,000 off MSRP. The others that are closer will do about $1500. Would I have to take it to the far away dealer for service or is it o.k. to take it to any dealer for service?

Either lean on the local dealers "hey, I'd like to buy from you, but it's worth $500 to drive 30 miles...", or buy from 30 miles away. I bought from 250 miles away, and get is serviced locally.

You need to acount for other fees if any. Then you will really see the true difference. When I looked, one dealer had a "service/prep" fee of $900! another dealer a little further away only charged $300. ...big difference!

bull**** more profit fee
Buy from the most convenient location for services. although any dealer will warrantee work, a lot of dealer may throw in free oil changes for a year or 2 and other perk that you might want to take care of. Plus dealers tend to take better care of warrantee issue from cars they sell IMO. No dealers will turn down a sale over $500, so if you have the price you wantm tell them straight up and they'll bend. If not money, then get them to throw in other accessories and oil changes, that stuff adds up too.

Edit: you can still get the S without a roof, as long as you forego any packages.

Tell the cheapest dealer you want an "out the door" bid and then give it to your local dealer. Believe my if you get it serviced where you BOUGHT it, you WILL get better service.
The Chevy dealer in my little burg had a HUGE sign hanging from the ceiling as you come in the service bays: "You bought it from Barnhart-Rooke Chevrolet, YOU COME FIRST!". I think that applies to most any dealer.

Get both dealerships to quote you an "out the door price". Then ask which ever dealer is higher to beat the lower price. The go back to the one that was originally lowest and ask them to beat your new low bid. Continue this process until you can't get any lower.
This doesn't have to take a lot of time. Use the telephone and e-mail and don't go back to any dealership until you have a price you like. Get them to put it in writing and email it to you before you go back.
You can also ask your local dealer if they will throw in any free service to get your business. I purchased my car in Houston (where I live) for $400 MORE than a dealer in San Antonio quoted, but the Houston dealer threw in 2 years of free scheduled maintenance. That's 8 free oil changes and a free 15000 mile check up at the end of 24 months whether I am at 15K miles or not.
Don't be afraid to ask. You might be surprised.
Good Luck!
