New Seat

Interesting Story. Had a scheduled Oil Change at my Infiniti Dealership for my 2007 G35S. As long as I was bringing the car in, I wanted them to take a look at the front passenger seat as it looked as though the padding had bunched up under the seat creating a butt-print/lumpy look.

The car only has 15,000 miles on it, so in my estimation it is still very new and I explained to the service tech that it was not acceptable for a high caliber, luxury car like an Infiniti, he agreed. (For the record, this is a great dealership with excellent service record)

When i returned to pick up the car today, he mentioned that they were unable to corrrect the problem under the passenger seat, so they were ordering a new seat bottom. Here is what was weird...he said that the seat bottom, is 4,000 dollars?!?!??! Granted, he said that the dealership was picking up the tab, but still! How can that be???? So the two front seats make up nearly 1/4 cost of the car??? That can't be right...

As always, would love to hear your thoughts....

Mark ups. Plus economies of scale. These things are a lot cheaper when they're buying these by the several thousands to throw onto cars on the assembly line.

And when he says that, he means if a chump was to just order one off the street. They dn't pay anywhere near that, and in this case their are just billling Infiniti for it anyways.

GREAT to hear this story though, because for 8500 miles my left bolster is already starting to look definitely worn and more wear and tear than should be. My dealer is nowhere near good service, so I might have to take it somewhere else for something as forgiving as this though.

Nice!! i remember acura did the same for my friend when the leather in his rsx started "bubbling" up...it's nice to find dealers that cooperate with complains and do something about it.

Good for you, I wish my dealer would do the same

I have the exact problem. After only 2000 KM, my sport seat's left bolster is starting to show signs of wear and crack. I asked the dealer to replace it before it gets worse, but they refused. The dealer said leather is a natural product, thus it will age subject to natural use.

Anyone can post some pics on their sport seat's bolster? I will take mine tomorrow to show everyone. Thx.

Ha, when i told a friend of mine he said the exact same thing about Recaro seats. Yeah they are sport seats...i am still blown away by the price though.

To the guy who is having cracks in the side bolsters, you should contact Infiniti if you are getting pushback from the dealer. The whole 'leather is a natural product' argument is bullsh*t. If they give you that argument again just say "Milk is a natural product too but it is certainly possible to buy spoiled milk off the shelf and not know it."

Also, the very fact that its natural means its subject to imperfections, simply because it is not an engineered product.
