Aluminum trim replacement, FX50 style??

One of the criticisms I have of my car is the overabundance and dubious creativity of the "washi" aluminum trim, I've always known I want to replace it, either with carbon fiber or any other trim that is a little less...I dont know, artsy, and darker.

Well, looks like Infiniti shared my view, they improved the interior of the new 2009 FX50 significantly over our cars, specifically they solved the aluminum trim problem.. check it out below.

It's gosh-darned beautiful, any idea how we could adapt the design to our cars??

Even though it's practically the same, along with the EX? And now the Maxima? I think Nissan/Infiniti should just offer skin plates for their interior, like Guitar Hero Guitars.

first off, i love my interior!

second(not directed to any one, just a soap box moment), i work for nissan(manufacturing) and i have to say, because of the way the auto market is going, the company can't sit by and be complacent. everything has to be scrutinized to save money or profitability will fall. If you are not profitable, you will not be successful enough to supply the customer with what they want on the future generations of the vehicle. and that will ultimately lead to it's demise.

I know the "nickel and dime" stuff gets old, but it helps the company move on comfortably. imagine if everycar had its own dash with its own materials. the cost of this could rise ten fold. and that enevitably eats into R&D costs. not to mention the particular design dramatically reduces the amount of people attracted to it. like the thread starter likes the fx interior, but most of the others do not. fine example that if we were wanting to buy, it went from 5/5 to 1/5. the product will end up suffering in that situation.

I am proud to be apart of a company that is and has been able to supply above par products and still stay among the top tier as far as profitablity is concerned. If we had not been profitable during the "turn around" years, the GTR would of never made it here or even been realized.

you need to look at your interiors and compare from manufacturer to manufacturer, not model to model. remember why you bought the vehicle. for its drive, for its power, for its convienence, for its looks, and not because it was similar to another infiniti. be happy with your purchase!

Personally I'm not feeling that interior at all. The gloss black I don't hate, but prefer washi or wood. What I really don't like about that interior is that it looks pieced together? Charcoal, brown, wood, gloss black. It almost looks like they put every color and option together in one car so you could see them all together at once???

There is a guy from my SRT8 forum who has a new process that is amazing. You send him your interior peices and he can do ANY type of finish.

Patterntek I think...his work is flawless and reasonably priced.

Plus...while i like the layout of the new FX..there are too many mixed textures/colors going on. You have the black dash, brown leather, piano black instrument facing, wood center console, then then various colors/finishes of the metals eg shift gear, clock surround, etc.

Not a lot of consistency from a design standpoint. But i'm a designer, so.

i never knew the washi aluminum was a problem, and i disagree that the problem was 'solved' by not implementing it into the FX50

There are just too many clashing colors in the FX interior. Dash dark gray, glossy black, nasty carpet brown, wood brown... Aaaaaargh. Thumbs down for me.

Comparing manufacturer to manufacturer, I don't see this in Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura. All Lexus interiors look pretty different. I can understand some cost saving measures, such as using same window power/power start buttons, but placing the same navi console in Murano, and now Maxima was real hard to swallow. I was hoping to see an M style console on the FX.

Initially, I was really impressed with what they did to the G35 interior. Evidently the people at Nissan were too and they decided to use it in all their future models. I guess I can be happy about that

I totally agree with the comments here. No offense but that interior is a disaster. Too many clashing colors and treatments. To me it looks very plasticy and fake, exactly the reasons why the latest generation Gs have gotten such raves in comparison to the Infiniti and Nissan interiors of old.
