Can major damage occur after scratching the bottom of our cars?

Scratching the bottom of your car is nothing... that's mostly the lower panels and exhaust piping. Worry about bottoming out. But if you have a good suspension, you shouldn't have to worry about that.

I had this same exact issue, what solved it was switching tires from 35f & 30r to 40f & 35r< made a positive impact on everything!! Ride quality is smooth and comfortable, looks good (filled in the fender gaps a lot nicer and flushed out the wheels even more), and most importantly I don't scratch and grind the bottom anymore going into my garage

Hey sorry to come back at this, but still having problems getting into the garage. I'm riding an '03 G35 Coupe with the stock 18's on 225/40 and 245/40's. Would changing the tires really help adjust the size of the ride? If so, what can I switch to? Any other suggestions to remedy?

Considering stock G35 coupes come with 225-45-18 F and 245-45-18 R, it would definitely help if you switched back to the stock tire sizes. You would gain about 1/2" of ground clearance. It doesn't sound like much, but it's still a noticeable difference.

Sorry I misspoke, its the stock wheel sizes with 225/45/18 and 245/45/18. Would it make any difference if I went up to 235 & 255? I've been looking on the forums and still hearing conflicted reviews. Also went to a tire place and they said it would probably add no noticeable height. I just wanted to know if it would be worthwhile change, would the change in size have any negative effects, etc? Appreciate the help here.
