TPS Reset Itself?

I changed back to my original rims/tires this past week from my winter setup and I noticed the sensor light was off. I did not notice if the light was out before or after I re-inflated the originals to the correct pressure.

Is this possible? Has this happened to anyone else?

So it was on the whole time your winter setup was on, right? That was because you either didn't have TPMS on there, or it was a different TPMS you didn't have programmed to your ECU.

Then, when you put on your stock wheels with the TPMS that your ECU recognizes, the light went off.

Sounds pretty logical to me, unless I'm missing something

Correct. No TPMS on winter setup and light was on the whole time. From what I read (or thought I read) on this site is I need to take the car to the dealer and have it reset???

Excellent if it reset itself

If it's the same sensors it will go off after recognizing them again. If that worked, then it's probably a lot easier/cheaper than worrying about having TPMS in your winter setup and getting sensors reprogrammed and/or tires dismounted and remounted twice a year.

yup, the sensors will reaquire in 25 miles or so worth of driving. I had a nail puncture and my tire had a slow leak, after the repair and correct inflation it too about 20 minutes and the light went off.

From what I understand it's not a real-time TPMS, it polls every so often, dealer told me 25 miles, but it could be time based. it's definitly not polling on car start.

Did you replace, patch or plug your tire? I having the same problem but don't want my dealership to plug the tire. (tire has only 16K, rears) In the past with other cars plugged they never ride the same and this car is very tire sensitive.

I took my summer wheels off (with OEM sensors installed) when I ran winter wheels/tires.
During this time, I had the TPMS light.

When I put the summer wheels back on, it worked just as the manual stated.

I drove the car and when I hit 16 MPH, the light went off, as the system initialized and recognized the sensors.
I didn't have to drive for any amount of time. As soon as I hit 16 mph, the light turned off.
This is in the manual.

^+1. I put my OEM 18's back on yesterday afternoon, hit about 15 MPH or so and the light went right off. The car feels much better with the Bridgestones.

I had them plug it, it wasn't in that bad a spot and was a fairly small hole between the treads. So the plug sits at tread depth. After they rebalanced it I can't tell the difference. IMO it was better then dropping $280 on a new tire, I'd rather get the life out of this one, then go with new backs in a matching pair.

If it were close to the sidewall or on top of a tread I would have replaced the tire. I guess I had lucky unluck?
