08 G35XS Yahooooooooo
I will take delivery of my G35XS tomorrow and am extremely excited. In looking over the manual on line (an unbelieveable 463 pages), I am amazed at the amount of little features the car has.. It's my first Infiniti and first non american car. I bought the g35 with prem, nav, sport.
So be prepared for a load of questions...
Like:
Is there a feature that will allow me to play tracks from a homemade mp3, randomly?
Any idea how much the subscription to XM with the traffic monitor will cost when the 3 months expire?
Is the traffic monitor separate from the XM subscription and is it worth it in the NJ/NY area?
Any info would be appreciated..
Thanks

I can answer the XM questions... you can get the XM for 77 a year and then traffic is $5 more a month, but they did it for me for $109 as a package. they seem to be negotiable on price.
yes the traffic and radio are separate, you can get one without the other. but to be honest, Sat radio makes AM/FM obsolete... you will never again listed to FM after using Sat radio. I have 2 AM stations i still listen to, WFAN and NPR local.
I'll add that it looks like XM-Sirius merger has been approved and we will see a big change in pricing and content coming in Q2, or maybe Q3. I'd guess that you won't be able to get that good deal after the merger, it will be more standard in their pricing which is around $129 a year.
And yes they are definitly worth it in the ny/nj area. all the major roads have the traffic flow service and it is very accurate. I just used this week to decide if I should go up palasades and over Tapp... at 4:30pm... usually that route is pretty bad at that hour, but the traffic said all green... I was skeptical but decided to give it a try and was impressed, the roads were perfectly clear I made my fasted trip back to CT ever.
And my daily commute I have two ways to go, both equally as long. each morning as I pull out of the driveway I check traffic and probably on average once a week, one of the routes has an accident so I take the other route. then when I get to work I hear everyone's stories about how traffic sucked.

You got a good deal!
During the free trial I never did find anything on XM radio worth paying for. Six of the presets on my radio are aimed at NPR stations I can receive during my commute from one part of Long Island to another. The hard drive holds every CD I own worth listening to with room to spare. The CD changer in the trunk holds audiobooks for long distance entertainment.
When my trial ended I renewed only the Navtraffic, and only because I will be making at least NY-FL round trips in the coming year. My usual work commute is reverse, east in the AM and west in the PM, on 495 for 15 minutes. The only traffic I ever see is going the other way.
The cost of any XM subscription must vary with the phases of the moon, time of day, and alignment of the planets. The agent 'gave' me an annual subscription at $118 for only the Navtraffic!
I feel unclean and used.
but I LOVE THIS CAR!

I would like to congratulate you! I was the same way when I got my car. My neighbors still think I am a nutcase. :P

The neighbors don't own a G35 and you do. Pity them. THEY are the nutcases!
Are you using the autorecord function? You can let it record a CD while you listen to AM/FM or try to find something on XM to justify the subscription. Some CDs will record as fast as 15minutes, much faster than the CD plays.
Yep, Autorecord.. and XM sucks compared to Sirius.. I had Sirius in my Chrysler 300C and it was really much better (content wise and really commercial free on the music stations and of course Howard). I wonder what they will offer when the merger is completed....

So given that the FCC has to approve it....it still may be awhile.
