Sirius & XM
Sirius & XM
So I just purchased a G35XS with the Nav and XM. My previous car was a Chrysler 300C that came with Sirius. I called to cancel my Sirius subscription and they offered me a portable Sirius radio with free installation. I accepted the deal (it was a $200 radio). So now I'm curious as to where to mount the the thing.. and will it cause a problem with the XM system..
Any info would be appreciated

Before I swapped the OEM XM receiver for a Sirius receiver, I had my portable Sirius tuner mounted in the cigarette lighter / ashtray area with the cables run to the aux-in port in the center console. It worked fairly well, and allowed me to use both XM and Sirius.
Which Radio did you get? the Sportsters 4/5 fit beautifully in the arm rest.
let us know, then I can send you a picture of how I installed it, if you have to sportster 4/5.
Also you will probably need to get a do-hickey thing.. I can't think of what they are called right now. but they get rid of the humming electrical interferance of the car... it's a must have, the radio is unbearable without on eof these things... ground relay.... many, why can't I think of it..... it's on the tip of my tounge.

There is really only 2 ways to install it. You can use the AV input (preferred), or use an inline FM modulator. Well three really....if you include using the built in FM transmitter....but that's a last resort due to quality. None of those will interfere with your XM radio.
For what it's worth, I didn't have any "humming" issues when I installed mine.

And the two companies have already gone forward as if the merger has been approved, so the new pricing struction, all technical aspects of how they will get XM channels on sirius and vice versa have already been worked out. it's a matter of sharing the last bit of information which is considered confidential until the merger was approved.
I bet we see it by July.

6 months to 1 year isn't speculation. That's the official rollout time line filed with the FCC and listed on both companies websites. The basic packages will show up in 6 months. The ala carte packages will show up in one year, which gives them time to design and bring to market the new receivers that will be required.
And the XM and Sirius signal is incompatible, so it's not a simple matter of "flipping a siwtch" which some seem to think.
