Angry Bad Gas Mileage

2008 Infiniti G35x
Mileage: 800

I have read several forums and found that everyone for this type of car is getting 16-17 mpg CITY. My dashboard reads out 8.7 -9.1 mpg CITY and this is me not going over 3 rpm at all. Its a brand new car and cannot figure out why it would have such a problem. Anyone have any ideas or advice?

I would definitely expect you to do better then that. Just as a point of reference I get about 19-21 mpg in the city in my RWD 07 sedan. Of course the X will be a little worse. Also, if you haven't already, you can do a quick check of your dashboard computer calculating efficiency by hand.

It will improve. Just be patient. The computer isn't all that accurate to begin with, and new cars still haven't gotten all the learning under their ECU's belt. The # displayed will improve, and certainly so will the actual. I was worried about the same thing 5 months ago. Now, not so much.

Don't believe the computer(s)...after 8000km mine is still way off and I have reset it many times in both locations. You should fill the tank, set the trip odo to 0, burn a least half or more of the fuel and then refill it and record how much fuel it takes to top it and how many miles are on the trip. I think you should be happier with that when you see it. If after this you still get 9mpg, then, I would say you have a problem that you should talk to Infiniti service about.

I average 21mpg on my G37S & I do some spirited driving.

Wife averages 20-21mpg on her 07 G sedan and most of her driving is in rush hour traffic.

Did you reset it when you took delivery of the car? There is a lot of testing involved during PDI, and the car is usually left runing (for a long time), as well as other times at the dealership when it is idling.

Reset it and you should be back to normal.

Thanks for the reply.

I did do a manual test . Filled the tank to full and almost at empty now and I have only 120 miles on the tank.

Thanks for the reply.

I have reset it countless times expecting the outcome would be different. I love everything about the car except this problem. I filled the tank to full and reset trip A to count the mileage manually. The tank is almost at empty and Trip A is at 120 miles. I thinks thats something worth worrying about.

Thats what the dealership said but who wants to wait that long and continue wasting the extra fuel until the computer adjust.

sounds unusual to me...almost like you're in the wrong gear. I get pretty much 20+ mpg since day one. I can get a touch less (like 18-19) when driven hard. It is true that the milage should improve slightly as the engine wears in but only a couple of mpg's.

If you say you stay under 3K rpm and are still getting poor milage, I would at least take it to the dealer take a look at it. BTW, what gas are you using?

I get 25-28 hwy, and 17-20 street, in D. If you leave it in DS alot or use manual mode all the time your mileage will go to like 12 city, 19hwy.

What's your highway cruising speed to get 25-28hwy?
