License Plate Solutions
License Plate Solutions
I know this has been discussed quite often, but I did search on this forum and didn't find much. My mom will be insuring her car when we get back from our vacation but it doesn't have mount holes for a front license plate. She would rather not have to drill holes in the bumper to install it but if thats the last resort so be it. I was just wondering though, what are some solutions that avoid having to drill holes in the bumper? I heard about sticking magnets behind your bumper and just having the plate stick on. There are some pretty strong magnets on ebay, like 75lb pull magnets for $15.00. I was wondering what some other options were that you guys use without the need to drill holes in the bumper.

Check stillen.com, they have a mount that screws into the tow hook threads behind the front grill. Looks a bit odd, but they do the job.
Or, run without a license plate? Lot of folks around here do...

Seriously, about half the Gs I see around here don't have the required Texas front plate, and in an informal poll, doesn't seem to cause problems.
I think xfactor78 already realizes that you would really be pushing your luck trying to run with no front plate anywhere in Canada (if the car is from Canada of course). In Ontario that luck would run out pretty fast and you would be handed a fine. BTW, if it's magnetic someone could easily steal your plate. The one from Stillen mentioned above is probably best. http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?i...r=&make=&model

I recently brought my G into Ontario (Canada) and everyone here has a front mounted plate.
Currently, it is sitting on the dash. Doesn't slide around or anything, but to be honest, it makes me nervous. Plus, I am in the process of getting it set up properly.
To speak to the initial point, I am under the impression that there is a "front license plate bracket" to which you can mount the plates. You order it directly from Infiniti (and/or Nissan). It probably runs in the $50 - $100 zone, and they will mount your plate using a bracket. There is a small removable cover on the front of the G where the bracket goes. So there is no drilling or anything unsightly happening to the body of your car.
Hope that helps.

I mounted mine to the middle lower grill. I used the license plate bracket and secured that to the grill with electric wire plastic ties that you can get at walmart or home depot and then secured the plate to the bracket with the screws that came with the bracket. Took me about 15 minutes each to do my daughters '07 G35 Sport and my '07 G35 Sport My daughter has over 23000 miles on hers and I have over 16000 miles on mine and the plates are as secure as ever with no holes. I tried to post pics once but they are too large to download to this site. I used three to four ties per bracket and just cut off the excess. They work great and its easy to do. Oh yeah, I did the same thing on my wife's '06 Mini Cooper. The bracket I used was in the trunk of my car when I bought it and the ties are a couple of dollars if you buy a bundle.
inTgr8r - can you clarify for me? Just wondering ... from the looks of it, you made a sticker/adhesive copy of your plates and actually stuck it to the body of the car?
It looks really convenient. Just wondering how you pulled that off, cuz I am DEFINITELY down for that as an alternative to mounting the plate.
