Here we go again, MPG

I noticed that if I take short trips, less than 5 miles, my MPG drops significantly to less than 16 MPG. I guess the idea with this car is only to start the car if travelling more than 10 miles, then the MPG should be better, +17MPG I think but I will see over the course of the next 2 weeks. My car has 2000 miles.

Enjoy your ride, stop worrying about gas mileage, it is barely broken in.

I agree with GEE35X. Just Enjoy it and I really hope you are because it's a shame if your not.
What you have just figured out applies to just about every gas vehicle. Lots of short trips isn't all that good for an engine anyway.
If you have lots of short trips maybe you could walk or ride a bicycle instead and save your car for the longer trips.

My average since July 07 has been 18.84mpg in Washington, DC rush hour traffic. I don't consider this horrible at all considering the type of driving. I would also pretty pedal heavy when possible.

I never keep track of my city MPG, I just flip the shifter over to manual mode and put a big 'ole smile on my face and enjoy what is always a great ride
My hwy MPG is +/- 26 mpg and since we take alot of long drives that's what matters to me BTW, 19k miles on our G.

306HP, it'll get a bit better, and I'd just suggest just noting your hwy MPG and write off your city MPG as the price for all that fun!

Thanks everybody. Yeah, I am going to drive this car on +10 miles only, its my weekend and after working hours car so a tank lasts me 1-2 weeks. Its more fun on the freeway anyways. Just wanted to find out if any of you guys had observed this too.

BTW, I am totally enjoying the car, just the other day I was stopped for speeding but got away with the seat belt ticket. That cop is the best thing that ever happened since the G. He was very understanding, if only all of them were like that

I'm in the same boat with you 306hp. I drive a work truck all week. On the weekends I love to get into my G35x and drive. Just enjoy! When buying a 306 hp car, fuel economy shouldn't be on your mind. Having fun and enjoying the drive should.

just recently, 1st 50 miles, all city, 15-16mpg, then went on highway for the next 100 miles, according to the screen, i'm avg 20mpg, so yeah, city is horrible, highway is decent

Just curious but do people that are worrying about gas mileage actually research things like this *before* you buy the car? I knew the car was a 17/23 car when I bought it so I wasn't real concerned when I started out getting 18-20 mpg.

And yeah if I wanted good mileage I would have bought a Corolla or Prius, not a 306hp sports sedan.
