tomorrow decision on 08G35x or 08G35xS but *hate* sport seats… advice
First post so there it goes….

Soon to be new owner of a G35x sedan and tomorrow I’m supposed to confirm with the dealer whether I am going with with a 08G35x with sport or non-sport. I really love the wheels and, the front fascia but cannot stand the sport seats. I have read many of the threads on the subject and wanted an opinion as to which way to go.
Do I:
a) get the sports package and either buy the regular sedan seat (ebay or other) or maybe trade with someone else who wants the sport seat (int. color is Stone). or do i… (
b) go with the non-sport and possibly get wheels fascia mods done?

The dealer has been great and letting me try out both and I actually went down tonight and just sitting in the seat without driving hurt. I have seen the post on the mod for removing the metal thigh bolster and could consider that as well but an hesitant. Buying OEM seat it out of question with it going for 2k.
Thoughts? Opinions? It seems the majority like the sports seats but for those that do not what have you done?
Thanks!
-S

PS. Already ordered a Sirius tuner from Grubbs to replace XM thanks to the info found on this site/forum.

The things I like on the sport X that you haven't mentioned are the paddle shifters and the side sills, The rest of the things I really would not want.

In your case you just don't like the sport seats, you might be able to do a swap with someone that has the standard seating and you would have everything else that goes with the X Sport.

Thanks for the reply... I was kinda thinking the same thing. This my first G (or Infiniti for that matter) and it looks like the majority of you got Graphite interiors so I was worried that it might be hard to find someone with a brand new or very like new seat who wanted to trade. Second concern on that was I didn't konw if he seats were easy to pull out and if they were just 'plug in play' with other versions (non-sport vs sport).

Part of me thinks having the metal plate thigh bolster removed might be the way to go as I see at least one person has done that on the G37 forum. http://myg37.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175845

If I was you and the seats mattered that much, assuming you're not going to use the paddle shifters, I'd go with the non-sport.

I would seriously think the seats would be a plug and play and a simple swap.

You will love your new car

paddle shifters can be installed by yourself

you can get the front bumper and side sills installed

aluminium pedals installed

basically everything in a sport..

can also get the BBK from the G37 installed

Actually thought of that too... question is it less hassle to swap 1 thing (seat) or swap/upgrade 3 things. The changing or modifying the seat just seams easier, IMO. or do I say screw it and go with the G35x. lol..yeah... i'm on the fence.

go for the sport, im sure u will find someone who will swap seats with no problem, to get a non-sport and then get the sport bumper, sills and paddle shifters will cost you much more.

I say go for the non-sport. The seat is one of the most important parts of the car given that you are going to be using it 100% of the time. If you are not comfortable with the sports seat, then avoid it. I think it's a hassle to change that later on. The front fascia ... I don't think it's that much nicer. Paddle shifter? Easily installled later on.

ps: I love my sports seats!

Did you have them bolstered down all the way? or up?

When bolstered down i think they are comfortable. Id go with a sport and swap a seat or just let yourself get used to it.

sonofjay,

As one who was dead set on buying a sport until the seats killed my thighs in the exact same manner, I would strongly recommend that you go with the sport and just have the metal plates on the thigh bolsters removed by a reputable upholstery shop. It will cost you FAR less in the long run and this is something I wish I had done from the beginning.

Removing those metal plates is no big deal at all and any decent upholstery shop can do the work.

OTOH, adding things like paddle shifters, rims/tires, side sills and air dam, larger brakes, etc. are much more invasive and expensive.

The other thing is, IMO, the non-sport seats aren't super comfortable either. I don't like how the non-sport seats do not have extendable thigh cushions plus the fact that it is limited in terms of how far forward you can tilt the bottom cushion vs. the sports which have far more adjustability (other than the thigh crushing side bolsters).

Yes, I did have them completely deflated, still not comfortable. I actually messed around with them for about 30 minutes, moving between the sport and non-sport editions and trying the seats out. I'm sure I drove my Sales guy nutty but he said that he'd seen the same questions and back and forth before from others on the seats.

Appreciate the input everyone...still on the fence but I'm going to call it a night and sleep on it. I'm going to check this thread tomorrow before calling the dealer.

One question, for those that live in northern climates and the have G35xS. Are there any issues with the lower profile tires in the ice/slush/snow? Do you swap out the AS tires for winter ones and wheels? I'm in MA and just trying to gauge if the lower profile tired/wheels would impact winter driving any even though they are both (sport non-sport) are AWD.

Thanks

If you've read the other threads you've probably read my comment before. If not, try these steps on the sport:

1) adjust the thigh supports all the way out
2) adjust the steering wheel all the way out, away from the dash
3) now adjust the seat back to where it is comfortable in relation to the steering wheel
4) give it a month or two

These steps will straighten your legs more and get them off the supports. I also suspect the supports give some over time because now they are very comfortable to me. When I've had a loaner from the dealer with the standard seat, they didn't feel supportive at all. I couldn't wait to get back to the sport seats I hated at first.

Please do not use summer tire in winter. It won't do any good for you. AS at least.
