Dealership said 09 g37s are coming out late fall.

Should I get an 08 now or stick it out & wait until Oct-Nov?

Damn, I never knew the FX and the G were the same cars

I bought an 08 based on this reasoning. The 3.7 engine is nice and has more HP but it will make the car heavier. The 09's will have bigger brakes, they better have bigger brakes since the 09's will be heavier. Performance wise I'm pretty sure the 2 will be almost identical.

While the 7-speed auto is great idea and will probably get a little better MPG's, I would guess no more than 1-2 more MPG's on the HWY, I can see the transmission shifting up and down on it's own to the point that it will drive some people insane.

If you can get a great deal on an 08, Like I did, and you're not made of money buy the 08. I got $4800 off the MSRP, the 1.9 financing, and the dealer threw in the extended warranty. I did pay for the tire and wheel warranty out of my pocket.
They're all great cars for what you get for your money.

gugarci has a really good point. There are some things about the 09 I might want, but they are more little things - like autolock, tilt mirror in reverse, and maybe side mirrors. I doubt the performance and mileage will be much different, so i'm not really concerned about that.

I got a really good deal on mine as well - it stickered for right at 40,000.00 and I got mine for 36250.00, and that was on March 3.

I would gladly take an 08, and put the rest of the cash in the bank, towards gas, or any other purpose.

$4,000.00 plus a lower interest rate over the term goes a long way, and is it really worth 20hp or so?

Think whatever you want to justify your 08 purchase.

The VQ will not gain weight from increased displacement; the motor is simply stroked. The minimal weight gain would be from a longer connecting rod, and VVEL.

You will not be able to get a great deal on the 09's till at least June, July of 09 when the rumors of the 2010's will be on the net. When the 09's come out the dealers will not be dealing much. They will not have enough 09's in their inventory to make them an immediate need to move them quickly. In fact anyone who's interested in an 08 should be able to get a killer deal at this time if they can find the color and optioned model they want.

It's a hell of a car.

It's personal opinion. It is reasonable to assume that the 09 will not get 30 mpg highway, will not do 0-60 in 4.2 and will cost more than the 08. Especially because there are people that insist on having the latest and greatest and will be willing to pay MSRP or close to it for increase of 1-2 mpg and a few extra horses that they won't be able to feel anyway.

The only justification I need for my recent purchase of an 08 is to either take one look at it in my garage, or get behind the wheel for a spin.

Don't need to justify my purchase. I knew of the G37 sedan possibly coming out in 09. In fact I'm pretty sure I posted in this thread many many pages ago. Initially I was interested in the G37 sedan. But my main interests was not on the higher HP engine, but in the new gearbox. But later on I changed my mind.

Also Mike I highly doubt the new G37 sedan will weight the same as the current G35 sedan. Unless Infiniti is planning to break the trend. New models get heavier not lighter. Either the new engine or the gearbox will make this car heavier and that will offset the higher HP. But I understand that as a car sales rep you need to build excitement and spread the FUD.

I'm a salerep also.

Im thinking about leasing a 08 G35 sedan, but at the same time looking at the 09 sedan. From the replies I've read, the latter won't gain in much fuel economy. I was hoping so .

My questions are:
1.) how much will the 2009 G37 sedan increase in price compared to the 2008 G35 sedan?
2.) Im planning to get the least price possible on the lease. Should I wait a couple months, until September so they try to clear their inventory? or is that too much risk?

Thank You!

If you can wait till the 09's comes out wait. Then check out the specs and wait for an actual unbiased test report.

I highly doubt you will be able to get a great price on an 09 initially. Not enough in stock and the dealers are not going to be taking a lot off the MSRP at thsi time. But you should be able to get a killer deal on an 08 providing they have a car with the options you want.

Denial is strong in this thread. I have yet to see a car perform similarly to its predecessor when an improvement in powertrain is the primary attribute that is updated in that generation car.

When the e46 328 changed to the 330, a HUGE improvement in performance was gained from the 0.2L of displacement. Same with the 5th generation Maxima (3L to 3.5L) or the 350Z (VQDE to VQHR). I'm sure the car will gain 50 to 100lbs of weight but will that offset 24hp gain with more gearing. The 390hp 4500lb fx50 attained 0-60 in about 5 seconds. The 330hp g37 at 3700lbs will have a better weight to hp ratio and should beat that figure.

Alluding to the possible cosmetic tweaks mentioned earlier in the thread. Do y'all think there's a possiblity Infiniti might change the optional spoiler for 09? Perhaps to something more like the coupe's. I'd really like a spoiler on the 6MT I'm planning to get, but the current version does nothing for me. Floating above the chrome highlighted trunk lip it looks like two attempts at a spoiler on the same car (no offense intended to those who have them and love them)
