Car and Driver August 2008

Did anyone else read this issue? There was a quote about our G35s being weaker than a 328i I believe. Is that a typo cause 328is aren't very fast. The second funny thing it said was the G35 is a upgrade from people coming from STis and Evos. I really don't agree.

Sorry no scanner but def check it out!

they probably said or meant 335i. as far as the subie comment, I was looking at a Legacy, STi and 135i when I was shopping. for the money, this car offers the most per dollar.but the Legacy is close with a long list of easy mods that'll have it running all over these cars. the STi is even faster but a little more stark on the inside.

You don't think the G sedan is an upgrade? Really? It what way, less performance?

LoL no its def a upgrade but the statement in the article made it seem like people who drive STi/Evos upgrade to G35s because 335is are in a higher class. Pretty much it was saying G35s are for semi-boy racers.

The exact quote is "This is a 3-series for those maturing from Evos and WRXs."

It's a stand alone statement by Jared Gall so there is no other context to put it in. I think it's a weird statement but as a recent WRX owner looking for similar performance in a more refined ride for only a slight price premium, I'd say in my case he's not too far off the mark. The funny thing is that the G is at the same price point as the new Evo and STi.

As usual with these long-term reviews the basic message can be boiled down to something like "Great car, bad clutch"

LOL if they said the 328, that's just hilarious. It's a great looking car (good friend of mine has one), but in no way does its performance touch the G.

LoL yeah they did say the 328i. Prolly a typo though cause I've only seen the G battle against the "All Mighty" 335i.

Anyone else wish the Gs had a little bit more torque and less weight?!

^^ I think if the G35 lost weight it would lose the luxury part of the sport luxury imo.

i'd go for the more torque part, maybe 20ft/lb more stock and that would be heaven!

306 HP/290 TQ would be hella hot + manual transmission (6speed) for "X" drivers!

much less performance (straight line + handling) and it's nowhere near the driver's car that the sti/evo is. 40+lb/ft of torque down, stock to stock doesn't help either.

it's a step to the more comfortable, and that's why i bought it. now I need another sti, or possibly jump ship and play with an evo :/

let me put it this way, i would never be caught stepping out of an evo or an sti EVER. they look like matchbox cars and don't offer even a hint of luxury. do they perform? hell yes, you can't deny that. but you simply cannot put a suit on and show up at a wedding or something, and step out of an evo or an sti. its strictly a kids car. the g35 on the other hand is a beautiful balance of luxury and sport and i cannot be happier stepping out of it no matter where i'm going. it performs better than most other cars on the road, its more luxurious than most other cars on the road, and it commands more respect FROM THE AVERAGE PERSON than most other cars on the road. the average person doesn't even know what an evo or an sti even is.
