Some Pricing Info (i.e. I ordered my car)
I ordered my G37 today, with expected delivery in early Nov. The car is being diverted from a dealership in Texas, and they made me put down $2,000. I was told that there is very little demand for a RWD G37 here in Chicagoland, I needed to make a greater that normal deposit. Not a big deal, the check will not be cashed until I have a delivery date.
While at the dealership, I looked at the (supposedly) official pricing sheet. I did not write down any other prices. I did notice that there were different spoilers for cars with nav and without.
My car is a Blue Slate over Stone Journey with Sport, Premium and Nav packages. Also on the car were the trunk mat and splash guards.
MSRP Pricing (as I saw it).
2009 G37 Journey $33,700 up $1,000
Premium $2,500 no change
Navigation $2,150 no change
Sport $2,100 up $450
Trunk Mat $100
Splash Guards $150
Delivery $815 no change.
Total $41,575, up from $40,075.
I asked when the "introduction" date would be, and was told it was pushed off until late October or early November. Reason being, too much 2008 inventory.

2008s Better Deal
I understand that may not seem like much but I beg to differ. The car he ordered is $1500 more than a 2008 equally equipped. Granted, you get different side mirrors, bigger brakes, 3.7L motor with 22 more HP and 1-2mpg increase in fuel economy and dial seat heater switches. The wheels are ugly and the bigger brakes and slight power gain won't be noticed by anyone other than the 1/4mile people who take their car to the track. However, when you consider purchasing, you lose the $3K rebate (which if what he says proves to be true, will definitely go up after 30 Sept. when they still have a glut of inventory) with the 2009s, you pay $1500 more for the car and then you have to figure you'll pay more for the 2009s vs the 2008s. So if the 08s are going for invoice, you'll pay at least 500 over invoice if lucky along with the 1500 price difference so that's already 2K more than an 08 and then you add the $3K rebate for a price difference of $5K MINIMUM. The 09 differences just aren't worth it UNLESS you don't care about spending a bunch more money.
Now I'll admit leasing could be different since the residual values will be higher than the 08s since their current residual value already reflects them being a year old. That of course assumes the current money factors will be the same etc. If that's true, then MAYBE the higher residual values will offset the price difference (you can't use the $3K dealer cash for the leases) but we'll see.
Looks like it'll be the '08 G35 for me. Good luck though with the G37 for those of you buying it

I'm not sure what you're talking about with respect to your comment, however, I will agree that by this time next year the 09s will probably have similar pricing but of course still cost $1500 more in apples to apples because of the price increase the OP mentioned. I'm merely stating that for the many buyers on the fence between the 08 and 09 waiting on pricing and fuel information, I think it's clear now that the '08 is a FAR better deal and that fuel economy savings as I pointed out in a different post will take people between 6-10 years to break even. Like I said, if you think the bigger brakes, 1-2mpg difference, 22 more hp, side mirrors, self-healing paint and re-designed mirrors are worth it...then go for it. I just don't think many people will think it's worth the thousands more you'll pay for the 09s. I'm betting Infiniti's numbers on the 09s will not be good at all when the car comes out.
I have to ask though...where are the side mirror markers and cooled driver seat at least that you get in the Maxima but not the G?? Come on...Nissan/Infiniti screwed that up. These would have been simple adds that I know MANY people on here have asked for. But the Maxima gets them...go figure

im sure they gave it a lil more thought than that, but there are many other factors to keep in mind, most enthusiasts took a liking to the g35 when it was released rather than the luxury consumers that were expected, i feel that though with the g37 they are yet again trying to hit that higher age group, but also still realize the importance of performance when it comes to sales, so to add a/c seats and all the other lux accessories they would at the same time fatten the car more than it already is.... just remember theres more than one angle to each shortcoming and/or advancement
I don't know...If they gave it thought they should have implemented those two things. The side mirror markers wouldn't have affected the weight/price of the car much at all and neither would the cooled seats. And to be honest they probably could have implemented that dual sunroof too since that actually would have probably reduced weight. I just think it seems silly to have those things in the Maxima and not the G but it is what it is...not crying about it...just don't understand the logic/trade-off that kept them from doing it.

The current paperwork says that I will buy the car if my VPP Plan C is accepted, if not I can void the preorder.
I have been getting the runaround with regards to VPP, the dealer keeps saying it will be accepted right away, when all other information points to a 3-4 month delay. So, if the VPP is not available, we can negotiate, and I will not loose my deposit.
I do not expect it to be accepted, and we will go from there. I expect to pay somewhere around $750-1000 over invoice. The dealer is not going to want a RWD G37 on hand here in Chicagoland, where 95+% of G sedans are AWD. Hence the reason for the large deposit. Not a perfect plan, but the allure of a opening-day purchase is somewhat apealing to me. I also have an expiring lease on my 2005 G35, so I need to do something. I have already extended the lease by 3 months to get me to November, and that may still not be enough.
I also had the heated steering wheel on my 2002 Maxima, great feature, but I would choose cooled seats over the heated steering wheel.

Does nay one understand why the price for the Sport package went from $1650 to $2100? I know it has the new brakes, which I am very happy about, but the 08 coupe has all the same stuff as the 09 sedan sport package, and is $1850.
I am not complaining, I am on my third set of rotors in 45k miles, "warping" the other two sets. I participated in the "touring" sessions at Roda America the last two years (track time during lunch break, no passing, 70 mph speed limit), and ruined rotors both times. After several hard stops, I had over 0.080" of runout both times on the fronts, and once on the rears. It was 100+ degrees both times, but still poor.
I hope the new brakes will allow me to do some light track days next summer without penalty.
