It it very simple to auto sync. Just make them sync at 20 mph. It's just a simple few lines of code. If 4 tpms are not detected. Wait till the vss reads +20 mph and then search for 4 tpms. Wait 30 seconds. Do another search. If the same 4 tpms show up. Attach to those 4. It is literally about 15 lines of code to do that.

I know, Im a software engineer.

Same with the cf card port and transfering mp3s to the hdd

All the hardware is there. A simple GUI option And a transfer function.

For the most part they do a good job. But some times their stupidity astouds me

It makes a lot of sense to you since you think logically. To the average consumer, it is simply too much power, and too much potential for them to mess something up.

Snows

Can you avoid the amber idiot light if you simply mount new snows on the OEM wheels? I know a -1 fitment makes more sense, but I'm cheap too, especially when my job might not exist next month. I have an '08 Xs. Also, I'm trying to figure out the difference between the three Blizzacks: LM-25, which doesn't have the multicell compound, and the Ws 50 and Ws 60. I assume the 60 is the most recent version? The LM-25 might offer better better dry performance, and the Ws series the better snow traction? TIA

You've got it right. LM = better dry performance less ice traction. WS60 = newer version of WS50.

Yes, that's correct. If you keep the same rims on the car, then you'll avoid the light; the sensors are mounted on the rim itself. You can just have tires re-mounted with the seasons instead.

Most people here just choose to live with the amber light for half the year

Thanks...

to SpudRacer and Mike.

Having trouble finding much in 225/50/18 besides the LM-25. I'd prefer the WS 60...guess I'll keep looking.

Why don't you modify it to your convenience. Maybe you can even make some money on these things.

Just an idea.

Drop down to a 17" wheel and your choices expand greatly. I just bought WS60's in 225/55R with these wheels for $935 plus $100 shipping from Tire Rack.

The wheels are a cheap cast aluminum @ $114 each but they are a fairly close match in appearance to the OEM wheels. Close enough for salt and ice anyway.

The WS60's were $119 each. I'm regretting not dropping down to 215's as Tire Rack recommends as the 225's look pretty wide sitting here in my garage. The price difference was negligible. The 215's were $116.

Edit: These wheels I ended up buying are slightly different looking than the ones I posted earlier in this thread as my intended purchase. Changed my mind at purchase time. But they're both in the same cheap/winter category.

Thanks to all...

...I bought a set of the LM-25s (18") to fit on the OEM wheels this afternoon. The local Discount Tire store brought up the special that Tire Rack was running on these and gave me that price...in fact I believe that they ordered them from Tire Rack. Something like $162 as opposed to the $197 in their computer. That price was before shipping/taxes of course.
My company pays for auto related incidentals since it was a company car, and I knew snow tires would be covered, but not 17" alloys, and like I said, I am cheap! At least the LM-25s will be better in the winter slop than the OEM all seasons, even if not as good as the WS-60s. And, I figured when the roads were clear, I wouldn't compromise dry weather handling as much.

Well I put on my 17's with WS-60s on last night. TPMS light kicked on about 8 minutes into my 10 minute commute, and it isnt too annoying of a light, no need to black it out with electrical tape yet. We will see if it kicks on more frequently now that it sensed the missing TPM sensors....

I decided to break down and purchase my winter tires (Dunlop Sport M3) on TireRack last night. My wife is worried about the snow when she drives to work. So is it easy to take the sensors off my setup now to transfer over to my winter setup?

I may just decide to live with the light on for the winter. This is my first set of winter tires. I am looking forward to gettting great summer times come the spring. My buddy has always been telling me "All season is no season". I finally decided to take his advice.

For those of you who don't have TPMS installed in your winter tires, I wouldn't worry about it. I just do a quick walk around before getting in my car to make sure I don't have a flat. Not worth the hassle of swapping TPMS at the cost of dismounting/remounting/balancing your tires. To add, each time you bring it to the tire shop you risk them scratching your wheels. Even if you had 2 sets of sensors, it will cost you 1 hr of labor or roughly $90-100 to reprogram them after each winter. If that dash light annoys you that much, go right ahead but I can live with it.
