Drive Sport Jerky Shifts
Manual Mode Jerky Shifts
I have an '08 G35 sedan. If I floor it from 0-80 mph in automatic mode, all the shifts are smooth, but when in manual mode, the shifts in the lower gears are sometimes really jerky - like the whole car tugs really hard after I shift. It almost reminds me of the feeling you would get if you neutral dropped your car.
Is this normal? Can you stay on the gas when shifting in DS or do you have to let off the throttle before shifting?
EDITED because I used the term 'drive sport' incorrectly when I really meant 'manual mode'

It's normal for your car to have jerky shifts in DS mode.
You don't have to let your foot off the gas when you shift. Just keep it floored and let the car shift for you (DS) or shift manually with the manual mode.DOMO
The jerk is just the car shifting as fast as it can( Like a stick) when you shift really hard and fast in a standard the car jerks no?? I love that about mine no slush box shift FTW..

Yes - in auto mode (D or DS) the engine and tranny know when the car is going to shift, so they happen smoothly. In M mode, you shift when you want, and the shift happens abruptly. Mixed input on which is faster, some have reported their fastest 1/4 mi times in DS, one or two others have said M. I personally drive in M all the time, because I prefer to choose what gear I'm in.

naw, this isn't correct. auto mode has more wear on the tranny due to trying to make the shift as smooth as possible.
Has anyone experienced a high rev when you turn right quickly in DS mode or slight hard brake in DS? The high rev RPM won't go down to normal until I switched back to regular drive mode. Do you know why this is happening? I asked dealer but they don't know and want to take a further look at my X.
it's totally normal, and YES the RPM's will drop down(eventually). The computer holds the revs up, this is amazing for driving on winding roads... i guess you're not a very spirited driver ? this is absolutely normal infact is one of the best features our transmission has, rev matching and revs being held up so high. I hate to say this but if you're not enjoying one of the best features the G has then

Well I just went out for a drive because I haven't for a while (busy busy times). I think my ECU got used to the grounding wires or something, was at 7000k revs and i shifted with the paddles, the shift happened so fast it jerked my head back into the seat. Nice! there was a thud sound i wasn't so sure about though, but it could have been my bag in the trunk getting slammed lol.
