I have a 08 G35XS ... have been trying to find a deal on a set of winter tires. Hard to find since 225/50/18 is kind of a unique size. I found a deal on a new set of (2) 225/45/18 and (2) 245/45/18 Dunlop Winter M3's for $300 Tire size calculators say that the 225's will be off by about 3% -- I can live with that ... and the 245's are about .6% off. My only concern is rim width ... will the sport rims (18 x 7.5) be able to handle the width of the 245's .. tire is .79 of an inch wider and calls for a rim width of 7.5 - 9.0. Seems to be within specs ... but on the bottem end.
Any thoughts/ experience would be greatly appreciated! TIA

 

I went 225/55/17 Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60 on winter wheels.
There's lots of choice in 17s

 

But that would involve another set of rims

 

traction won't be as good with a 245 rear. better to go with a 225 like intgr8r suggested above.

 

thanks for the responses guys ... I understand that the 245 rear will not handle as well .. but I think it will still be very good. I just don't want to invest in a 2nd set of rims and TPMS sensors. Also the 225/50/18 OEM size is an expensive winter set $800 ... when I can get the set described above for $300 and they are new still in wrap. Main question is will 245 be ok on a 7.5 rim

 

Yes the 245 will work, but you also are not supposed to mix tire sizes on the X. Use the same size front and back.
As the others said the narrower 225 is better for winter.

 

Good point GEE35X .. did not think of that. Will it throw off the AWD since front/rear will be spinning at a diff rate?

 

Yes it could damage your AWD system. I would not want to chance it.

 

It will mess up ur awd, I have seen it first hand. Use same tires on all 4

 

Thanks for all the help guys, snowcrossmxz you are right. Talked to an infiniti tech, basically it will confuse the VDC and AWD because wheels will be spinning at diff. rates. Just curious snowcrossmxz .. how did it screw up AWD .. what happend?

 

Since the tires are "all-season". I live in the Mid-Atlantic area so, good "all-seasons" work well. I have used Continental Contact Sports and Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S, both are great tires.

That said, I checked with Tire Rack a while back and they recommended that if I were to replace the tires to go with (4) 245 45's.

 

If you cant find a good snow tire, just get a good set of all seasons.

These dunlops that our cars have stock, are horrible in the snow. The car wont stop, or turn unless your going like, 5 mph. Honestly, my 05 RWD on my crap Cooper A/S seemed more confident in the snow.
