Maybe you do, I don't. I don't consider the G a Sport cars. It's too big and heavy. I drive the G more like a lukury car. Only time I hit higher speeds 80mph + is when the road are pretty empty and dry.

I know winter tires are much better than all-season, I'm not an idiot.
Shall we examine the evidence before voting?

First you asserted that there was nothing that could be done to improve traction on ice.

Then when I pointed out (nicely I think) that Blizzak's can indeed give you much more grip on ice, your response was to ask for a 100% guarantee that you would never slip/slide on ice.

You made a dumb request as I'm sure most non-idiots will agree. I can't guarantee you wont slip on a track using racing tires as i don't know your skill level, judgement, speed, or surface conditions. So, asking me to guarantee 100% that you will never slip on ice.....well, it was amusing. And yes, the previous post was a jab.

I'm not sure about idiot but I'd say your responses were not well thought out in both cases.

Winter tires will perform much better than all-season tires in freezing conditions but can still slide on ice. No tire, and this includes the best winter tires out at the moment will be 100% secure on ice. I also pointed out that winter tires perform better than all-season tires in the winter. So while winter tires can handle ice better than all-season, in icy conditions you are better off playing it safe and driving carefully regardless of the rubber.

I don't drive my car at high speed in slippery conditions so for my needs, and my needs only, my all-season tire are fine.

i've got 25k on my a/s tires and winter is here. i really could use new tread but i think i can get 5 - 10k more out of these. i'll have to take it real easy on the icy days/nights. they are still fine most of the time.

I am pretty much in the same boat mileage-wise on stock all seasons and although they seem somewhat slippery at times still feel they can get through the NYC-Long Island winter. I plan to replace them at 32K or so.

I might get to low 20K's on the Dunlops on my G35xS before they need to be reshod (going with Kumho Ecsta LXs)...I will say that the G is a snowmobile compared to the 2006 A4 Quattro I had...It add 235/40R18s vs 225/50R18s on the G (advantage - G) but the A4 was still a handful even with decent Kumho ASX All Seasons...The pure mechanical Torsen AWD (Quattro) vs the ATTESA (with add'l electronic nannys) just doesn't adjust quick enough to slip...In SNOW MODE with the reduced torque curve and hp output, the G is awesome...Better than our 08 Highlander Ltd with the crappy Toyo Open Country A20s...Those tires (245/55R19s) are undrivable in the snow...and we live in Metro Buffalo, so we get a fair amount of practice...

just switched from the staggered Bridgestone Potenza summers to Kumho Ecsta LXs A/S and so far I can feel it sticks to the roads better but requires a bid more throttle on stop and go. will let you know hot it goes after tomorrow's snow

I was wondering if any one on this board has any experience with Michelin Primacy Alpine's....they are selling them on tire rack for $119 a piece...and I can't find that much info on them online besides what is in the tire rack website.

I tried to get X-ice2's but I couldn't find it in stock anywhere.

AND even though I think that the Blizakk's are probably one of the best snow/ice tires out there, i don't want a tire that is 55% snow and 45% AS....since I already have two sets of all season tires in my garage.

Any input would be helpful

Those driving in snow with dedicated summer tires shouldn't be surprised...it's like an accident waiting to happen.

You're 100% correct CalsonicVQ...Summer tires shouldn't even me on your buggy when the temp is below 50F...Most summer compounds aren't set up to handle the lower temps, much less snow and slush. Summer tires can be slicker than snot on a door **** even on dry roads when the temps are low...The Tire Rack advice is correct - once an all-season or snow tire is below 6/32nds, it's useless in the snow...I live in Buffalo, I know...but as I noted on an earlier post, my G35xS with the 225/50R18 Dunlop A/S Sports is good in the snow (about 7 to 8/32nds left)...

G35 XS in Ottawa

Got mine in November to replace an Altima 3.5 SE. I drove the Altima for the first two winters on all-seasons, with no problems. Tried that on the G all-seasons and was sliding all over the place. Called my trusted garage guy and he said " Of course, with all that power there is no way you can go without snows". So, a set of Blizzaks later, the G has become a tank. No comparison.

WRT the "ice" debate above, nothing except chains will really help you much on ice. A tire alone simply can't establish proper traction.
