Anyone have any insight on replacing a cracked windsheild? Got a quotes from auto glass installers for $385 and another for $250 installed, but dont know if there are any special antennas in glass or sensors that need special attention while installing. Not sure if I should go with the cheapest I find.

Is there any benefit to getting it replaced by the dealer with factory glass? Has anyone had any problems with aftermarket glass? I havent gotten a quote from Infiniti dealer yet but im sure its gonna be way more.
Its for an 07 g35x 4 door. Any info would be a big help. Thanks!

 

We had to replace our glass... we ended up at the dealership only b/c they were actually the lowest we could find at the time. The service writer actually recommended aftermarket glass... he commented that they have had much better success with aftermarket glass not cracking/chipping as much as the factory glass. We did get factory replacement. BTW - factory glass sux. 8,000 miles: 2 replaced windshield. And no, we don't follow closely to traffic... infact the route that my wife takes to and from work rarely has much traffic.

The stock glass cracks wayyy too easy. My factory windshield cracked in less than two weeks (about 1,500miles) after buying the car. It was replaced with another no-name brand and i'm now at 12,000miles with no problems at all.

 

Check your insurance. Depending on your state, you might have free windshield replacements or a low comprehensive deductible. I had a choice between factory and aftermarket and I went aftermarket just because I didnt like the fact that the factory glass cracked on me after 2k miles and a tiny miniscule pebble. Needless to say, the aftermarket glass has been a LOT better and it has the same blue tint up top, which is the only thing I cared for. I'd say go for aftermarket. The stock glass sucks ***.

 

I've had windshield replacements on 2 cars--both aftermarket glass and no issues. The dealer (at least around here) outsources their glass installation anyway...

 

Avoid Factory Infiniti glass. Mine has never been hit with a big of even medium sized rock and it has 100's of pin point, small chips all over it. It seems a bug could chip my windshield. I rarely drive on the highway and only have 20k miles. Just make sure the aftermarket glass you buy has the features you want: shading, tint, quality, etc.

fyi, I went with Safelite three weeks ago, $283.91 total installed (tax, etc). Has the shadding at the top and looks great. Very preofessional and clean installation.

 

I just got my windshield replaced 2 weeks ago. it was covered by my insurance. I watched the guys do it at my house with factory glass. They did an excellent job.DOMO

 

I called 2 Infiniti dealers and they quoted me around $1K so is there anywhere else besides Safelite AutoGlass? They quoted me for about $200 so it would make sense to go with them instead of the dealer. Any other recommendations??

 

For what it's worth, I'm very picky (some say fastidious, to a fault), and the PPG glass that Safelite installed is flawless, as was the installation.

I had mine replaced a week after i bought the car due to vandalism ( employee i had fired didnt like me i guess haha). Anyway, i had it replaced with a Safelite glass for 250, which was my deductible, and its fine. No rock chips or cracks. Actually had a rock hit it the other night. I heard it hit the glass with a "tink" noise, but didnt leave any marks.

 

Sonicboost...I do autoglass and I can tell that thier is no advantage or disadvantage to using OEM or aftermarket glass, They are both made to the same DOT standards.

And as far as the story's of my w/s broke within 1500miles...Their is a world of things that factor into a w/s breaking...weather,driving conditions and driving style being the most common. I have been driving around with a rock chip in my w/s for 2 years and NOTHING has happened.

I recommend shopping around and getting quotes and let the glass co. compete for your business, I also recommend not using the dealer because they just call a glass co. and have them install your w/s and pocket all that markup...and I've seen some scary markups!!!

i was simply saying that the aftermarket windshield received rock hits that are much worse and nothing has happened.
