Thanks for all the feedback + and -.
For those interested in how I did it. I got a spare project **** (THanks Tony@Riverside!) It had a few scratches, but I knew I could polish them out. So I masked it up, polished and then put in a brushed surface finish with some scotch brite. Then I drew up the design I wanted in ACAD. I have an engraver at my disposal, and after some tweaking (it wasnt super user friendly) we tested out the engraving. I was really happy with the samples so we did the ****, which didnt come out as good as the practice pieces (the shading in the CAD drawing wasnt as apparent), but the pratice piece was perfect flat and the **** is spherical so that threw it a tad out. Plus from normal viewing distance the **** is just right, wouldnt notice the differences. Close up pics show it well tho.
So this was project more just fun for me to go from **** with scratches, to working on the finish I wanted, and adding a slight custom touch to it, but not look too far from an OEM look, which was my goal. Plus I got my OEM still one I can switch out in 1/2 minute.
Below are pics of the **** before, the ACAD drawing I did, the practice piece we engraved, and the engraving in action (v. bad phone cam pic sorry).

Thanks AV, I appreciate that.
I got some better close ups, I didnt notice till after install how I liked the brushed finish after matched the washi a bit better compared to OEM. Just a side note, not really a biggee... after all its just a small ****.
If anyone is interested in removing scratches or changing the finish I can walk them through it. I bet with the right clear coat it would be less resistant to scratching afterwards (I am guessing mine will be now, since I put an acrylic clear on it, but sure more pros out there know better than me). It is pretty straight forward to polish, but not entirely. I thought I ruined it at first and looked like it might of been painted plastic, but turned out it is Al.
