Not having full coverage is your call. If this repair winds up to cost less than what you have saved on insurance you are ahead of the game. Sounds like this thread should focus on helping a fellow G owner (which I am sorry to say I can not assist), rather than making judgments on your choice of insurance coverage.

If people acted like the mature adults they should be you would never see posts like this since the driver of the other car would be responsible to cover the damages. Its unfortunate there are bad apples around.

How does your insurance increase in premium without you filing a claim or being cited for an offense that increases the premium?

Just because you were overseas is not grounds to increase your premium.

 

It's because I didn't have insurance for the months I was there. Ya, it confused me too.

 

You try switching insurance companies?? Progressive only bangs me for $120 a month for full coverage since its a lease....I'm 21 and don't have a perfect driving record either...I'd try a different insurance company.

Not having full coverage is not a good or bad idea. You know you have to pony up the cash for the damage. Good luck with the repairs, too bad you're not local!

 

That sucks man, sorry to hear... something just happened to me about 3 months ago, and just 2 days ago someone broke in my rear window I just paid out of pocket

 

+1 on switching insurance companies.

besides the big boys (geico, progressive, statefarm, etc) i'd also go on a couple of those websites that search hundreds of insurance companies and brokers; often the brokers will get you the cheapest rates by far.

i've got a terrible driving record (lots of speeding tickets), geico quoted me $400/month but i'm paying $150 with Unitrin.. not the most spectacular coverage but it's got collision/comprehensive

 

okay you get the point, you need car insurance. It's not just for yourself, but for the sake of other drivers on the road. That being said, I think we've flogged you over this enough

Dude, sorry to hear that your car got hit. It always makes me sad to see an injured G.

 

Had this happen twice with my previous car, once on each side of the rear bumper. Had the same indent on the corner and the side of the bumper popped out just like yours. In both cases I was able to just push the side back in place. The fit was tight enough that it held, even though the clips were damaged. I never had a problem with it popping out in 2 years of driving it like that. You may or may not be so lucky.

As for the dimple in the bumper, try parking it with that part of the car in the sun and/or get a hair dryer and heat it up, then try massaging the dimple out. I was able to do this successfully on my car as well as on my daughter's car for indented bumper corners. I wasn't able to replace the missing paint, but I didn't have an insurance claim and didn't get dinged for it when I traded the car either. It will have a slight blemish in the shape because its been stretched, but you should be able to get most of it out. Then just try buffing out the scratches and see if you can live with the result. If you can't afford the repairs right now, its worth a shot.

 

^+1. You could always use that as a temp fix for the time being as well.

Could you post up a closer shot of the bumper. I'm not sure about the newer G's, but I'm pretty sure its a fairly easy job to get at the bumper.

You're prob taking off the liner in the trunk, unplugging your license plate lights, and getting to a screw or two in the rear fenders.

About a 30 min job. Just make sure nothing else is damaged.
