Paint Chips

Hello fellow G owners

I am in the northeast and just had a brutal winter. My 08 G35xS only has approx 4k miles on it and I ahve the clear bra. I am a little dissapointed with the amount of paint chips all over the car. Does anybody else feel their paint chips too easy? Anybody have a good technique for filling rock chips? Thanks for any information.

There is a sticky on the 'Care & Detailing' section on how to fill in rock chips. To properly do it, you have to sand, buff, etc... I got my paint at paintscratch.com and the color was point on. As far as the application, you could notice where the chip is. It will never come out 100% - only way it comes out 100% is to repaint the whole door, bumper, or whatever.

My biggest peeve about my G35 is how easy the paint chips. I am always finding new ones. Drives me nuts. I tried the Langka kit and while it helped somewhat, it wasn't perfect and the chip is still visible. I suppose it takes practice and that was a rather large chip. There are chip threads here but I personally have little hope and so far I have had to simply take solace in the misery loves company factor.

Is there some why, other than getting clear bra that would help reduce chipping? Like really layering on wax or something?

I tried Dr.Colorchip and it does an OK (not great) job on masking the scratches if they are narrow and superficial. Even after buffing, the scratches can be noticeable from up close on my bumper but not from 10 feet out and that is good enough for me. It's not intended for scratches that are deep or wide. There is a DIY on the detailing forum re. proper chip repair (prepping, sanding, using a toothpick + capillary action to layer paint into the scratch, clearcoat etc) which seemed to come out great but also seems like a huge hassle if there are lots of chips. Dr. Colorchip took less than 1 hour of my time and masked the most unsightly bumper scratches enough that I can live with them. It is almost a given that there'll be more of them (city street parking). I think keep using the dr. Colorchip until something more major happens requiring a bodyshop respray.

Wax is to protect from environmental factors such as sun, etc...It won't prevent rock chips.

Other than the clear bra, I don't know of anything. I had put many many layers of Zaino on my car hoping since it stays on for a year and is not soft like wax that it might help but I still get lots of chips.

For these newer Japanese cars with cheap soft paint, clear bra (full hood, fenders, bumpers, maybe even roof) is virtually a necessity...best $300 I spent!

Touch up paint never seems to match

Clear bra when new is the best thing for it.

Anybody have little paint chips on the rocker panel in front of the rear tires? There is a little strip of clear bra from the factory here, but it doens't cover enough area to be truly effective.
