Defence of the crankcase, NEW MOD :)

I live in Ukraine, and we have a lot of "bad surprises" on the roads here that could damage the engine (rocks, junk...).

So I decided to install the defence for the crankcase (made of steel by our local ukrainian shop). The only issue, that bothers me - is the weigth of it - 10-12kg (22-26lb). On the other side, I beleive the defence will make some "underbrace strengthening" effect.

The only pictures I've got is for M35x, but I guess it'll help:

"BEFORE" ---------> "AFTER"

P.S. The alternative is the defence made of fibreglass, the weight is about 5 kg (11lb), though it won't help hitting huge rock and no "strengthening" effect.

Wow, that looks like a very nicely manufactured component. For the 15 extra pounds I'd go for the steel version, you are correct, it would last much longer as protection as described.

22-26 LB more is not bad, campared to if some garbage gets in your engine. Looks almost OEM

this is custom? take note the patterns on the smaller shield after the front axle. now look at the patterns on this "custom" shield. this appears OEM because it probably is of a sort? maybe a nissan option only made in japan? i can only speculate but a shop would not bother adding slits to something simple as a custom underbody shield. maybe they took an OEM plastic dust shield and used as mold for a steel one.

Well, I can give you their contacts, but I don't know, if they would ship it to the USA

poligon@poligonavto.com

The defence is not OEM, but they supply almost every service-station in Ukraine with their production for every car we have here, so they are well-known and the quality is good.

P.S. But I decided to put a fibreglass protection, as it would weight 1.5 times less than steel one (and cost 1.5 more ).

im not questioning the quality of it. i was just thinking it wasnt really a custom job as a shop wouldn't bother matching those little slits instead would make it out of flat steel shielding like how they make it for rally cars. this looks like they took an oem plastic piece and made a mold.

OK, here's an update. This is OEM slim defence:

This one was hand-made (the inner side) of armored fibreglass:

and the outer side:

It is very solid, about 12mm thick, the weight is about 8kg.
