first dont use metal polish on a finish that is not even metal .. your wheels are made out of metal, but they have a paint and clear coat on them
second try distilled white vinegar diluted with a 50/50 mix of distilled water (grocery store will have them both), if it doest work, up the mix with a stronger solution of distilled white vinegar
if that does not work, try a medium grade clay bar
if that does not work try a abbrassive compound
if that does not work, get them refinished, you let the spots sit on there for too long and it etched into the clear of the wheels
