I had my heart set on a 2007 G35s

...until I ran across JD Power Associates reliability ratings for the 2007. They werent terrible but the ratings were substantially better for the 2008's. I live in a semi-rural area and making trips to the dealer is just not practical. Reliability is an important consideration for my family. Keep in mind reliability/performance is why I am looking at Infiniti/Nissan to begin with.

Is there any sense on this forum that the 08's are more reliable than the 07's? (I have already seen the Truedelta thread that indicates that the 08's are more reliable.)

I havent had any real big problems out of my infinitI (lol) '07. But then again mine was made in the late part of the year so may be more reliable than those made in '06.

i have had no reliability issues with my 07 either except the TSB's, the thing with he 08's is that they took care of all the small TSB's from the 07.

So far my 08 has been the least reliable car I have owned. It is starting to move into the positive direction but so far this is the part that I haven't really enjoyed.

I got my 07 sedan in 12/06. 32K miles later and no issues at all (except for grill).

Sometimes reading these reliabilty survey can lead you wrong. Most problems people had was minor estethical issue and some wind noise. I believe most addressed already. You have nothing to worry about. I mean yes you buying a used car you have more chance something goes wrong.

My 07 had pitting grills and wind noise.

I have an 07 and my dealer is an hour and a half away.
I also had concerns going into this but the car has been fantastic and it turns out I was worried about nothing.

Bought my '07 new in April 2007, after 25,000 miles no problems other than the TSB's which probably skewed the ratings vs the 2008's. Reliability is tops imho, body integrity (other than the grille piting), mechanical/brakes, so far so good.

Sold our 07 G a couple months ago, now have an 09 G. The 07 had 36k when I sold it and other than the TSBs it was the most reliable vehicle I've had.

Right the 08's look like they are running about $3-4k more than the 07's in my area. Thats quite a bit of money for the essentially the same car. However, time can be worth more than money. Time spent at the dealer is time that I will never get back. So I would be willing to drop the extra money if I really felt that I was getting a more reliable car.

Im looking to replace my '97 Maxima that has been the most reliable car Ive ever owned. It had its first non-maintenance repair at 194,000 miles; the MAF went bad. Other than that its just been tires, battery, brakes, etc. I just havent found a car that I liked enough to replace my Maxima plus money in the bank (its paid off)...until now.

good to hear that the 07s are reliable....I just picked one up had it for 4 months and it's been in the shop for a total of 3 weeks....some electrical issue with the seat not working, which shuts off my side mirrors and programmable buttons and two menus on the comfort and convience are missing....all (from what i'm told) is a heater core replaced under warranty and the dealer that did that did a ****ty job, where some wires weren't connected properly. So something is shorting out my seat drive that moves the seat.
Now going on the second week for them to trouble shoot where the problem is.

I WANT MY CAR BACK!!!!!

There may be some benefit is a slightly older car in the sense that its problems are more likely to be known. As far as driving I would think an 07 or an 08 would be very similar with the possible exception of some cosmetic issues with the interior. Mine however (08) does have an issue with excessive wear on the piping of the drivers seat and another issue with wrinkles on both the driver and passenger seat boosters which is odd since the passenger seat is rarely sat in. The 08 may be worth a little more if you go to sell it later, but then any money you saved purchasing an 07 will be worth more later as well.

My '07G35S6MT is a late build '07, and I've had no problems other than the slave cylinder issue (6MT), which I took care of. I agree with those who state that the advantage of the '08 is that the minor '07 issues were corrected. Other than that, the cars are the same, and the '07 will, of course, cost you less.
