The G35x is definitely more fun to drive, not the mention that the 2007 FX35 is the older generation. I personally would choose the G35X coz I like to be closer to the ground!

I just bought a 09 G37x over the weekend after having had a 07 G35s (actually both are still in the driveway while I work on getting the 35S sold) and I have driven a FX35 and EX35 as loaner vehicles. I love the G's but don't care much for the others, they just seem a bit diluted and numb compared to the sedans. I couldn't stand the EX35 in particular, I had a loaner for 3 days and could not wait to give it back. I kept saying to my wife that I couldn't believe it had anything at all in common with the G's. I really wanted one at first too, thinking it was going to be basically a G wagon after coming from several Turbo Subaru wagons. The versatility would be great but it turns out everything I need could still be done with the sedan just fine. I do wish the rear seat would at least fold down in the Gx. Then it would be perfect.

Long story short, go for the G37x if you care about driving feel (you won't regret it), the FX35 if you really, really, need maximum versatility. I still rather stay low to the ground and get a good wagon from Audi or BMW vs the FX/EX if I need the extra space though.

redgreen: I drove a G37X loaner (I have a 2007 G35X) last week for 2 days. I felt it was sluggish at takeoff, and the tranny reacted a little "funny" - jerked once or twice. The loaner only 2,500 miles on it. It seem to produce better mileage - City and Highway... The 7 speed definitely exhibited a different behavior. I'd be curios to follow your comments over the course of your driving the G37X. My lease comes up next July, I am thinking of going to the 2010 G37X, if they make a nice deal.

FX is pretty cool for a mommymobile, but it's still a mommymobile.......

The luggage room in the FX isn't much more than the G unless you fold the seats down, and your luggage is always visible (steal me!).

FX is a pretty big weight penalty with limited additional usefulness. Get the G.

I think I'm leaning towards a 2006/2007 FX35 or FX45

Between the two, I'd go with the G, better handling and most likely quicker.

However, since you're driving 35K miles per year and you're worried about cost of gas, my opinion is that a FWD (with a good set of snow tires) of another make with better gas mileage running regular gas (or diesel) is your ticket. The Honda Accord or the Jetta diesel come to mind.

On a good day, the G35x gets 24-25 mpg on the highway. I'll have to check the gas mileage of the FX and would be surprised if it's better than the Gs.

Infiniti Corporation recommends Super Unleaded Gas. Don't listen to the techs. Any car that is designed for gasoline can run on regular unleaded. Will cars requiring Super unleaded run great on Regular? No.. As someone said, if a few dollars extra per fill up is going to be a problem, sorry but any car requiring Super unleaded should not be for you.

That's interesting. I've driven the 37X 3 times and my 35 feels like a slug comparatively. The 37 has a lot more acceleration at take off and all other speeds. I think it's both to more power and in particular the gearing.

I will agree the trans on the 37 isn't very smooth.

I agree. After driving the G37x for 4 days, I didn't want my G35x anymore. I love that 3.7 Liter engine.

Still loving the G37x

I have been switching back and forth between my 07 G35s (that I'm selling) and my new 09 G37xS for about a week now. I have been constantly liking the 37x better. The 35 is a little more sporty, but the 37 is more refined and the AWD is great in the 20 degree weather. The trade for some (tiny amount) of sportiness has been well worth the gains in versatility. No regrets making the switch here. The 37 transmission is maybe a bit slower but I am getting better mileage with AWD in the 37 vs RWD in the 35 which I think is impressive (about 1 mpg highway).
