Isthis normal or a problem

Today I had to brake hard and turn the wheel at the same time....While doing so the car appeared to downshift multiple gears and the revs went way high and stayed that way for about 10 seconds, almost as though I had the car in manual mode and downshifted one gear to many. Please let me know if this is normal behavior.

Were you driving in DS mode? This sounds like DS mode behavior.

What did you do during those 10 seconds? If you bliped the throttle for a second it should have shifted to the correct gear.

Was it for 10 seconds or maybe it felt 10 seconds? Our G is equiped with rev match downshifting and if you drive it somewhat spirtited you can feel the car downshifts for you and revs up the car. Mostly you can feel it in DS mode buty in some occasion you can feel it in D also. It is possible it was downshifting few gears since it wasn't sure what speed you'll end up at.

I say it is normal but the 10 second sou nds a little too much. If you were slowing down in that 10 seconds sure. But you were already stopped than not normal.

Did you stop to 0 or just hard slow down to a certain speed?

^ Good point. By 10 seconds you probably mean 2-3 where revs were past 5-6k. If so this has happened to me before.

it has happened to me as well. in my mind i see it as an assist to the braking by using the engine to slow the car down as well. also by having the car in a high gear allows you to snap back on the throttle and escape a potentially hairy situation without waiting on the tranny to get ya into the gear it needs to be in to accelerate. simply an engineering thing that i like.

it felt like 10 seconds, realistically it was probably 2, maybe 3

Yeah that just the rev matching downshift. Sometimes you feel it more than other times. It more active in DS and when you drive it hard.

I would say normal, mine has done it when I am braking hard and turning. First time it did it, it freaked me out. But now it does it consistently at the some location approaching my house, but only when I am on the brakes hard.

Now that's a pretty smart car...using higher revs to help slow down the car when you hit the brakes hard. I'm impressed.
