NUSED 2007 g35 owner here with 1st day problems

Hello all, just joining the forum after spending hours reading up on this car and then going out to buy one. I purchased Journey with Premium 82k miles from a used car dealer $15,800, test drove perfectly. Went back and picked it up a few days later and bam, when initially accelerating, the car stutters and dies on feathering of the throttle. So I have it at the Nissan dealer suspecting faulty MAF or fuel filter... $120 to diagnose. They call me a few hours later and tell me its not the MAF or fuel filter and they still don't know what the problem is but that it will cost $240 now to diagnose. The car is still in pieces, I'm in a crappy sentra rental. The dealer swears the car was perfect when he sold it. Can anyone shed some light on the reason for the stalling? MUCH APPRECIATED!

I hope this experience is just a hiccup and that I can start enjoying this car!

Oh, BTW I used to own a 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 and 2007 Mazdaspeed 3!

Didn't the dealer give you at least 30 day warranty? I would never buy a car from a used car lot without some type of warranty.

Yeah, your dealer sucks if they are charging you to diagnose problems you are having while driving your just purchased car home.

And BTW, I knew it as soon as I saw your forum name.

....cannot help you but I wonder may be that's why you can get this car so cheap, 2007 Journey w/ premium for 15K, even w/ 80k miles? Tha's almost cheaper than a 2004 w/ similar miles.

^1 that seems incredibly cheap.
But I thought there would be at least a 30 day warranty.
I know it's law up here.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm in Socal, don't know about any warranty but the dealer expressed that it was sold as is. Test drove the car by myself for quite a long drive. Carfax was clear, brakes/rotors and tires almost new so warranty concern didn't come up for me as all the common concerns didn't pop up. I bought the car at wholesale price but ended up losing tons on my trade in. Mazdas don't exactly have best resale.

Came back from the dealer, car is still in the shop. Still have not figured out the problem but suspecting exhaust cam valve? Will find out tomorrow I suppose, I'm getting a little nervous...

Warranty is always a good idea with cars like G. Too many things can go wrong and can be expensive.

Used cars that are bought for at least $3,000 are required to be repaired and serviced for free from the dealer for a minimum of 60 days or 3,000 miles depending on which one of these conditions is reached first. Used cars bought for less than $3,000 are required to be repaired for free from the dealer a minimum of 30 days or 1,500 miles depending on which one of these conditions is reached first.

Use of the Used Car in California

The used car dealer is only required to do the coverage of repairs if the used auto is not used for business purposes

WOW sounds exaxtly like my car.. :/, Are there any mods on the car? (HFC's) Mine does that all day everyday. Dealer never really fixed the issue keep us/me updated on what they find.

But now on to the real issue, As stated above any car over 3k has a warrenty, For the dealler to charge you for this is kinda shady, As they a Nissan/Infiniti dealer?? I'm not paying a thing is I was you.. Just check your local used car laws.

Never a good idea to buy a car "As Is" even after a long test drive, unless you are prepared to repair anything and everything that can and will go wrong.
Keep us posted.... I'm interested in seeing how things turn our for you.

Good luck.

So I'm back in the Mazdaspeed 3. The dealer had me drop the car off at an Infiniti dealer for a second opinion after hearing from the nissan dealer that the problem was the timing chain- cost $4,500 to fix. The inifiniti dealer came back with the same diagnosis and a cost of $5,000. So the dealer gave me the option of reversing the transaction minus $750 for repairs he made on my trade- in. So thus ends my brief experience with the g35. Good luck to you all, thanks for the feedback. Hope I am back here with a new g35 soon.

I'm surprised that they let you walk out from the deal. I think they knew about the problem...that was why they let it go for so cheap.

^ +1.. look for another clean g with lower mileage. You can find some older years w/ less mileage for about that price and have no issues
