Talking New owner - tips?

Well, after many months of research, test drives, deliberation, and patient waiting we have finally found the right G for me. Found an 08 G35x that is being shipped to my local dealer and it should be mine in a week or two.

This will be my first car with any significant horsepower, any suggestions for acclimating?

Any tips on your first few weeks with a G?

Thanks!

Congrats, just keep your traction-control on and have fun
You'll be fine, just take it a bit easy when you first try manual shifting mode (DS), and if you do turn off your traction control be sure to practice any higher speed manuevers in some open safe areas first as the difference can be dramatic.

Takes a while to get used to the transmission downshifting on its own for what seems like no reason.... like going down a hill, or around a curve. But it saves on brakes if you let the engine brake when it wants to. It knows what you're doing based on steering input and G-force sensors (side to side, and front to back).

DS mode might freak you out a little the first time you try it because the car will shift at redline when you floor it. It also downshifts earlier in DS mode if you brake hard to bring up the RPMs.

Even on an X, do not turn of VDC in the rain. Lots of bad results from that.

Otherwise, with an X you should be less prone to encountering oversteer, which is the main possible concern from a mid-to-high HP RWD car.

Oh, and you should check out the G35 tips sticky at the top of the forum, that has some good info.

Welcome and congrats!

Thanks everyone, I've had the car since Friday and love it. Still learning how to best use the center stack and all of the options. I took it out over the weekend with a buddy and put it through the paces a bit and was amazed at how taking higher speed turns on freeways the car felt glued to the ground and in complete control. In my previous car I would feel uneasy on this particular curve > 45 mph... with the G35x it was smooth sailing at 60.

Love Ds mode and dropping it down a gear to pass on the freeway :-)

When I took delivery the car had snow tires instead of regular tires (they look pretty new too). Should I get new wheels and summer tires and swap every year or should I just drive the snow tires into until they're done and get all seasons? (I live in WI and so snow tires may be helpful, but I've never had anything but all season tires before).

Welcome to the family.
In the beginning, you're feel as though you have more than enough power and at times, it may even scare you a bit.
Once you get used to it, you'll be looking for ways to increase it.

Beware of the mod bug... it rips holes right through your wallet.

I am looking at buying a car from a dealer out of state and it seems like you found your car out of state as well. How did you get your local dealer to get it for you?

get new/used wheel with hi performance tire and you'll be taking that curb at 80 mph...jk.
seriously, come summer time your snow tires will be useless. get another set and keep your snow tires for the winter. let the modding begin...lol.

I have zero interest in modding the car (no offense to those of you that like it, just not my cup of tea) as I love how it is now

With that being said, where would you get used wheels and what should I look for in summer tires?

Get proper summer or all seasons and save the winter tires for winter.
Are the winter tires currently mounted on winter rims or on the G35x rims?

They're mounted on the standard G35x rims.
