VQ35HR Compatibility : 350Z and G35

Guys,
I know that the 2007 G35 and 2007 350Z have the same engine (or at least they have the same engine code). The VQ35HR.

Now , my question is if they are exactly the same engine or if there are some differences. Is the ECU and tuning exactly the same? The reason I ask is I am looking at a 2007 G35s whose original engine has been replaced with an engine from a salvage 2007 350Z. The only way I would consider buying the car is if there has been no hacking of the electronics or the mechanical bits to make it work. That is, if it was a simple drop in replacement. Do the headers bolt right up? Do the two cars have the same transmission (Automatic 350z). ?

Yes, I probably should be looking for an unmolested car but this is the only car around that has the technology package and the 4WAS option. And the price is very attractive..

Any info on this would be appreciated..

Wow you're willing to buy a salvage title car with a different cars engine (350Z) all for tech. package and 4WAS? Also there is a reason why the price is sooo attractive. Unless you are a highly trained mechanic who can do the work himself and have the extra cash I would avoid it altogether. Not worth it.

No. Maybe my post was unclear. The car I am considering (The 2007 G35) has never been in a crash and is in pristine condition and under factory warranty (except for the engine). The previous owner of the G35 did not change the oil in his car for 25000 miles and the engine was toast. So, a used car dealer took a replacement engine (with 800 miles on it -almost new)from a salvage 350z and stuffed it into the G35. What I am wondering is if the transplant job was simple or not and if the 350Z engine is fully compatible with the G35.

To sum up :
2007 G35 - Pristine condition - Engine from a 2007 350Z

its the same motor ... should be cool... history sounds a little shady though!

not sure about final drive and transmission... automatics from the same year should be the same.

post pics of the engine bay if you can

i dont have a specific scientific answer. my answer would be not compatible. simple solution that i look at looking at turbo and tuning modifications for the 350z and the g35 are two completely different things.
i know tuning shops here is ct built many custom turbo kits for the z and still have not succeeded with the g. even though there is more room to play with something has to be different.
another thing they had tuning software (cobb) out for the z about a year before they could do the g. if it was the same then there wouldnt be this much time of a time gap and different part numbers etc.
hope that helps.

completely different turbo kits? I really don't think so. if anything, it would only be the piping and intercooler mounting and such due to the different shape/size engine bay. The engine itself is identical. The ECU is very similar. the sensors and such are all the same. I don't know what the big deal is. If a guy can swap an LS2 into a Z at his own home garage, why would a trained mechanic have any issues swapping the same engine in slightly different cars?

To the OP, if you can confirm the swap was made by skilled mechanics at a good dealer then I wouldn't worry at all.

Good suggestion. I called and asked this very question. The used car dealer apparently did the swap themselves.. Well, the three grand I save by going with this car does not seem to be worth the trouble. I will keep a look out for a nice unmolested g35s with 4was.

well thats the thing judging by the outcome these guys werent "trained mechanics" if you know what your doing and have the skill then sure. just from reading this sounds to me like someone just put 1 and 2 together and see it itl work. oh good no check engine itl be fine.

Who knows what the Z went through, must've been pretty bad not to keep the Z intact.
Like mentioned, run away from this and leave a vapor trail
