Question about 5AT Front Cup Holder
To all of my 5AT friends:
Re: The front cup holder insert has the spring loaded flap that is supposed to be shoved downward when you insert a larger drink (or something) into it. Since I bought my 07 used I'm not sure if what I'm experiencing is normal or if I should try to get my dealer to warranty replace the part:
The spring loaded flap on mine always snaps up into the "sticking straight up" position instead of just stopping at the "flat parallel to the ground" position. Sometimes it will stay flat for a few seconds, but as soon as something even tickles it a little, it snaps upward and is worthless.
Is that normal?
Looking at the hinge it looks like there is some obvious wear to the tiny bits of plastic that should probably stop the flap in the proper position, so at this point it is only by luck that the flap works correctly.

I think we have extremely useful cupholders - go check out an e39 5-series (or any 5 series for that matter) then come back and say what you think about our cupholders!
I had a "similar" issue with that part in that the spring came loose and the flap wouldn't flip back up at all, it was stuck down due to no spring. I went to the dealer and they played with it for like 10 minutes and got it fixed - head over there and see if they can fiddle with it.

As others say it should be flat.
I love the size. But I am in Canada and our drinks are not oversized so it is good here. LOL

Thanks guys, I Dropped it off at the dealership to have the part replaced (along with some other services) and the rep told me the same thing, that it shouldn't pop upward.
lol that explanation you gave is too complicated for me to try and visualize this late in the night, I will say one thing though, I've had no problems with my cup holder so far, it's actually a thousand times better than my old Audi
I bought mine used and don't even have the flip-down piece. The dealer said it would be over $200 to replace the entire cup holder assembly, and I couldn't find anything used or at a junk yard
The cup holders in my '07 Acura TL were the best. Deep, with flexible rubber grips around the top; no spring-loading necessary.

Yeah I have no idea how the dealer out here was able to so easily replace the inner sleeve because I saw on the parts list that the assembly was only sold as a whole for like $140. I guess I lucked out.
Also they washed my car; which is AWEsome!
