Oil Change

Just finished up my DIY oil change...first time on my G35. Have always done this myself on previous cars. Was a little more difficult due to the low ground clearance and thus had to use jack stands. Oh well. Once I removed the four bolts to fold the rubber flap and access the filter and drain plug it was cake.

The VQ is now lovin the Penzoil Platinum 5W-30 (Now on sale at Walmart: $20 for a 5 quart jug). I believe the previous owner had the dealer do it with the regular non-synthetic junk. I plan to do it again in 7,000 miles.

I would assume most of you do your own oil changes as well?

Nope, not bad at all. I was going to go with Mobil 1, but after researching some analysis results on bobistheoilguy.com, I chose to go the Pennzoil route. Results seem to be very good when put in the VQ. I did go with the Mobil 1 oil filter though!

You should definitely buy it at Walmart. I think I saw the 5-quart jug of Mobil 1 5w-30 for $23. I used to buy mine at Advance Auto Parts, but they are way overpriced.

Penzoil....they've been around for a hundered years but I think there's better sysnthetic oil available for our cars. Checking the oil content charts it appears that AMSOIL ATM 10W/30 would be the very best synthetic for my coupe, and SLICK deserves the best! I'm not concerned about cost and would rather not shop at a store like Wallyworld, I wish company's like Costco carried more automotive products....my .02 cents!

Just did mine also with Penzoil Platinum 5W-30 but I had 15-20 screws to remove the plastic cover. Did my air filters also.

Been changing my own oil since I was 17 and I've never replaced one.

If you only take out the four screws that are at the back of the rubber/plastic undertray it will fold down so you can gain access to the filter and drain plug. If you look at the undertray, you will notice a crease or fold line that makes this possible. This is only on the RWD, the X is different.

Didn't notice. I took the whole thing off and didn't see anything like that. Interesting.
