Best place to mount GPS (not on windshield)?

Hey guys, I just bought the SoundGate Mobile M2 Mount that can mount a GPS, phone, etc...and I was wondering what everyone's opinions are with regards to where the best place is to mount it.

Not sure where you can put one that mounts like that except on the dash somewhere. I don't like most manufactured mounts. They typically don't work well in our car because of the interior layout. That is why I made my own. It can be easily modified to hold almost any phone or portable GPS. https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-aud...lip-mount.html
The GPS Nav in my BBY still work great where its mounted

before you choose a final mounting place just keep in mind that your GPS likely won't work down by the shifter. you may lose the satellite signal. the internal antenna is made to be in a window with a view of the sky....but....on the other side of the coin if you find out it works just fine down there let us know!

My old Garmin C330 sat in the cup holder (and sometimes I placed it over the ashtray) and worked fine.
Now I just use TeleNav on my Blackberry. Music, GPS, Internet and PDA all-in-one.

I think I would find a way to mount it in the center of the dash right in front of where the factory video screen is. I was thinking of using velcro on the edges, but a flip-up style might be nice in case you actually need to see the regular screen. I had a 2007 loaner without NAV/backup camera and the factory screen seemed like a waste of space.

I mount mine from the bottom of my V1 radar detector which is mounted from the mirror using Mikes Mount.

Yeah this is definitely something to take into consideration. my gps has trouble finding signal unless I move it higher

It actually doesn't bother my vision much. The GPS mount is not there all the time - it is removable as can be see in the 4th pic. Have you seen some of the junk some people have on their rearview mirrors?

Anyway, the question was "Best place to mount GPS (not on windshield)? and for me this was the best location.

I actually cut to size and attached square piece of self-adhesive heavy-duty velcro strip (Sears, fuzzy, not the hooks side) on my center dash. Same size piece goes on the bottom of the mounting circle, which I keep in the GPS case when not in use. Holds the GPS securely, does not obstuct the view, is easy to mount/unmount and I am OK with the little velcro square on the dash.

Leaves too little rearview real estate and the nav screen space is way too small... nah, either dedicated factory Nav or a Nuvi/TomTom with a decent screen.
