DIY Black out chrome
DIY Black out chrome
Didn't see a DIY for this, so I decided to post one up myself. This is my first attempt at painting and it didn't turn out so bad. I had the help of one of my other friend. Feel free to sticky this
Supplies
4 stacks of free newspaper
Painters tape
8mm socket (grill removal)
10mm socket (grill removal)
400 grit sandpaper
1x Rustoleum Automotive primer, paint and clear coat.
Prep Work
Get about 3 or 4 newspapers to do this. Cover the windows, body and anything you wouldn't want to spray.

Tape up the edges of the chrome trim so the stripping won't be discolored afterwards. Push the tape into the stripping, so you won't ruin everything later. Use a putty knife.

Painted the grill as well.

Sand every chrome piece down with 400 grit until it looks like brushed aluminum

Apply 1st coat of primer to each side consistently or else it'll look off. I did 2 coats of primer.

1st coat of black after 2nd coat of primer dryed up. I applied 2 coats of black paint.

2nd coat of black on the rear spoiler

When the 2nd coat of black paint dries up. Apply a coat of gloss, then apply another after the 1st coat dries.

Grill done. Thats water by the way, not any residue from the paint lol.

Right side done. When the 2nd gloss coat dries up, pull away newspaper and pull off tape slowly.

Bad pictures, but I will upload some good ones tomorrow.
JDM angle yo.

We taped a good majority of the car and newspaper was everywhere.

There isn't a write up for either of them. I tried to remove the rear trunk lid following the write up for the last gen G, but there are these screws I can't even remove nor reach.

You seriously don't have tools!! lol. REALLY easy to remove the trunk chrome lip.
I just went to buy vinyl film from an auto shop. It's really hard to apply because the vinyl is really sticky. I didn't have a hair dryer.(I think that would have made the whole thing easier). When you are really close you could see some wrinkles. I tried to do the window trim but it was too hard. I gave up. I never used vinyl film before, so for a beginner I think I did fine.
