New Steering Wheel

I had my whole steering wheel replaced because the trim was chipping. I believe they put on a newer model g37 wheel on it. I have the 35s btw, and it almost seems the steering wheel color looks different from before. almost like a dark grey rather than a black. Is that how the wheel is supposed to be new until its broken in? or is the wheel just gonna stay that color. Is there a difference in journey vs sport steering wheel. would armoral help it darken?

Same thing happenend to me. I had the steering wheel replaced because the trim was chipping and the new one doesn't quite as black. Almost like a dark grey.

yea, i had the same thing, had it for a year now and it matches perfectly again, just needs to wear a little before it will match with the other interior parts that have already worn out a bit

Ditto, it's like a dark gray but it should darken as time goes by. I just hope i can keep the matte effect on it as i really like it that way.

I'm so glad the dealership finally replaced the steering wheel (after my 3rd or 4th attempt). Other than the chipping, it seems the previous owner seemed to have had sandpaper palms since the leather texture was also gone in the 9-3 position on the old one.

Is there a TSB for the steering wheel? Or how do you guys go about asking the dealership to change it out for you?

I have a 07 and I have the same problem, the paint is chipping and the back of the 10 and 2 position is all smoothed out. I had the car for a few months, it's still under warranty, just want to see how easy or difficult it is for the dealer to do something like that for you. Thanks.

I went to the dealership and told them that people on the forums are getting there steering wheels replaced under warranty due to the chipped trim issue, and the service advisor told me it might not be covered under warranty. He told he would get back to me and he never did, so I called corporate and complained. Just tell the company that they are refusing to replace and that other people are getting it done and no problems should occur. They'll be nice enough to make an appointment for u at the dealer that refused to replace. They also took a few days because they ordered a damaged part so i got a free loaner car. As long as ur car is under warranty ur fine, u will get it replaced. It would have costed around 16-1700 for parts and labor. You can get the phone number for Infiniti Consumer Affairs on their website. Have fun.

I just finished making an appointment to get my steering wheel replaces and the door trim which is chipping. The Service Manager @ Infiniti South in Miami did not give me any grief whatsoever. He said it takes about a week for the parts to arrive nad I should be set. I will let you know how it turns out.

did you even have to bring your car in for them to look at? or it was all through the phone?

It's my first brand new car, and I never had any experience with dealership service before.
I bought my car in last time for them to look at the heated seat problem and that was my only experience.

The first three tries, i brought my car in, and each request was denied. The service advisers looked at them in all instances.

Went for one last try before my warranty expired. Incidentally, all of the original advisers i met before no longer worked there. The new adviser only looked when i asked him to confirm that they were indeed warranty issues. It was completely painless this time around.

Took about 6 months for my steering wheel color to match up. Either that or my seats faded!
