Damn, that sucks man. Sorry to hear about the hit and run. At least your headlight wasn't cracked. That would've been more if it was cracked. Not as bad as my situation though. A month ago, my mom backed into my 2003 G35 sedan and dented the left front bumper, cracked the left headlight, and damaged the left side fender. I only fixed all of my damage for $875 since I had a hookup.

In any case, it looks like they hit your car hard. I would be surprised if their bumper didn't also suffer serious cuts/scratches and deformation.
this is a hit and run and the police will investigate it if you call them with a suspect and your evidence. do not confront or harass anyone if you find out who it is. this only puts you on the wrong side of the argument and may end up getting you in trouble.

Thanks guys, for the support and tips. They're very much appreciated.

The blue is actually a reflection of the tape i had on the floor. Just the night before i was re-adjusting the low beams after the headlights were replaced a couple weeks ago for stress cracks.

So, yes, i was freaking out that they could be damaged... but so far it looks like they're okay. Although i can't say for sure if any tabs are broken. I hope not.

I'm contacting the lot operator today, they usually have security roaming around. There's also a camera in the building adjacent to it which i hope captured it... although (asking) getting them to release any footage may be tricky.

For now i filed a claim with my insurance... first time since i started driving nearly two decades ago.

Would this apply to incidents in private parking lots? Well, it's owned by a private company and parking is generally only under contract, but they do open it up to (paid) public parking when there's an event nearby.

Yeah, I'd say just look for another damaged car.

The only thing that this should affect though is your psyche and carfax report. Your insurance company should take care of it, with the hit to your wallet I guess as well to cover the deductible. But your premium and driving record should remain the same.

Wow, mike.. that reallly blows! Especially when I know how much we love our cars. I wish you the best w/ the repair. I know it's not easy but try to be positive that the damage was not any worse.

op,

i know the feeling. it happens though... not much you can do about it. in the end, it'll all work out for you, i'm sure. to the other driver, well...they have something coming their way x100 what they did to your car! on the bright side however, at least they didn't damage your right headlight unit, right? there's always an upside to a every downside good luck op!!!

Mike that's sucks bro! Who might have done that? You park away from everyone and someone still gets you?? That would make me MAD!!!

Man that is a decent impact right there. The damage right there might look like they hit you with something sharp, but it actually the corner of the bumper rebar under the bumper making that mark. They did hit you at an angle, and got your rebar on the edge as well there (that's why that black edge stands out so much)... and that looks like a decent bump as well =/ ...they definitely got your bumper rebar under there as well, can't say how bad.

You'll most likely need a new bumper absorber as well. That's probably trashed under there. Did you try taking the bumper off and see if there's any hidden damage?

Well keep us posted on who might have done that???

Guys, thank you all again for the support. It does help, especially since i just feel so drained by this... i know, material things, but i've worked so hard to enjoy the car... then this.

Just a couple more updates. The lot operator, along with a friend, helped me scout the lot on two different occasions today, to no avail. It occurred to me that there's a lot of cars there with minor damages everywhere, but none that would fit the type of damage we were looking for. So, the culprit may have used a different car, parked elsewhere, or was an outsider.

However, i'm hopeful that the security camera from a building away managed to see something... anything. I talked to the security officer today and he will be looking over the tapes tonight <crossing fingers>. He did say it's a bit of a reach from the camera's view... but i remain hopeful.

The insurance adjuster gave me a quote, the bumper cover/paint/labor will be about $777+ plus whatever else they may find in there.

Shurik, you know this car almost inside-out so i'm sure you're right about the internal damage. I'm looking over some photos of other members with their bumpers off and will compare it to mine hopefully by the weekend when i can manage to take it off and assess the damage for myself.

For now, with a little heat, i just pushed the dent back out... at least it looks half-decent. Were it not for the creased part, i could probably live with it for a little while.

Checking online for parts, i've only found the bumper cover listed for the Sport + Tech. Is the energy absorber and reinforcement beam behind it the same for the journey? (where there is a listing).

I take it the energy absorber is the hard foam piece, right?

Thanks again, everyone!

Mike if you have any question just ask me, I might be able to help. I do these kind of things on daily basis, since I'm a body technician.

Well yes the hard foam piece is the energy absorber.
The absorber and beam are the same on the Journey and Sport model, no difference.
I don't know where you are looking for parts, but when I rebuilt my G I mostly got my parts from infinitipartsonline.com and infinitipartsusa.com They are great for OEM parts! Sometimes one of them can ship for cheaper then the other or have a pretty big price difference on some items.

man Mike I wish I could be there and help you out on this thing and save big for you. Well if need any info let me know.
