'07 with harmonic sound problem
Hi all!
I'm new to the forums, since the Infiniti is my wife's car. She has a 2007 G35-s sedan, with 6 speed manual, no tech package. There are about 34k miles on the car.
Anyway, I have found that in 4th gear, at 50-55mph, there is a *womp**womp**womp* sound. It disappears in other conditions, even the same speed in another gear. The tires are inflated, balanced and rotated regularly. So I went in to the dealership and they said they had it for two whole days.
While they can reproduce it (I showed the service manager on a check-ride), they can't find anything wrong with the car. They called Infiniti who said that they don't have reports of it, so it must be a harmonic issue that we shouldn't worry about. Then he tried to tell me that I shouldn't be in 4th gear at that high a rev anyway (high? It's like 4k, if that). So they're brushing it off and I can't imagine this is right!
So I thought I'd turn to the internet to see if this has been reported and the guy is mis-informed.
Thanks!

I've had a similar issue on my 07 G35X. Its a tire. One tire. Had them rotated and the sound went from front to back. That confirms that its a tire and not a bearing or something like that. Not sure why the tire is doing it since they all look fine and have even wear. But , they are the (crappy) Goodyears that come on it stock and they are getting old so I'll run them a little longer then replace them.
but the original poster said it goes away in another gear at the same speed. which could also mean possible engine noise because the rpm's will change in another gear. Next time noise is occuring pop the trans in neutral which will tell u engine, trans, or rolling noise..
It can happen all cars. I know what you mean. It's kind of gear problem. You can't fix it without changing your manual transmission or the 4th gear in the transmission. But I think most dealer don't want to fix for you even though you are in warranty. Changing or fixing transmission is pretty picky job, and it takes much time than other job. Most mechanics are avoiding the job because it's hard but their salary are same. You persist your right.
I think 4~5th gears are mostly used in highway. The car still has warranty? right? then ask them change the 4th gear or change manual transmission box. It's small and cheaper than automatic transmission.
