G8 GT vs. 2008 G35 Journey Sedan 5AT

Hey guys,
I'm considering selling my 2008 G35 Sedan 5AT Journey and using the proceeds to buy a used Pontiac G8 GT instead. I've enjoyed my G very much, but I'm really itching for a V8 powered sedan and the G8 GT was really the best in class. It's a shame Pontiac is done for, because I've fallen in love with the G8 GT. The G8 has much more low end and a standard limited slip diff. It's a beast. Obviously from a reliability standpoint, the g35 is bulletproof. We really don't know how reliable those Ausie G8s are. But that 6.0L V8 is habit forming. Plus, simple modifications can yield much larger gains out of all that muscle. I'd love to hear anyone's opinion on this, especially if they've driven or owned both. Let me hear your thoughts.

Thanks

I read the consumers guide when buying cars. I would want a reliable car and my opinion is that Pontiac is not reliable. That's just me.

Consumer reports suck. Go to the appropriate cars forum and read around.

G8 GT is a nice car. I love how it looks outside. Too bad they stopped production. GM should of just rebadge it and sell it under different brand.

Chevy 6.0liter is bulletproof and cheap to fix. Do it if thats what you are looking for.

^ whs, the best of the quatermile times on a STOCK G8 GT 08-09 is 13.5-14.2 (102-103mph) which is about identical to the times of the G35, so like atoor said the G8 STOCK is overrated in power and under performs for being a 6.0L and considering the company is done for i would not risk it IMO.

I know the high end would be a killer but how many times can you go over 100mph?

Do your research and narrow down what your main goal is and then do what you want.

EDIT: im in no way trying to imply that the G35 is faster/slower/same or such and not trying to start any convo on it, i know there are various factors that affect those time, im just listing some info that might help you see the minimal difference between the two upto 100mph if that is your only reason for switching. G/L

Why the GT and not the GXP? Might as well.

^ G8 are nice but only comes in Auto, GXP that would have been the 6MT never made it to the general public on a large scale basis. Pick your car magazine and read up, outside the power and big engine you are not getting any faster to the 1/4 or to 60. IMO not impressive for a 6.0 V8 engine, but if the rumble of a V8 is what you're after, get the Mustang it's faster in the new 5.0 trim.

I know the feeling, v8 powered sedans can be fun, n torque monsters, opposite of the G.
G8s are very sexy cars especially in the hands of right people, car can be a beast. Bolt on g8 will easily handle srt8s
And why not look into srt8s, besides the fact that theyre huge/heavy, fast boats.
My next car will prbbly be a jeep srt8. cams/heads tune and daily fun.

The SRT-8s (Charger and Challenger) are cool, but the G8 GT is a superior car all around. Almost matches the SRT-8 in speed and handles like a 5-series BMW. I agree that the new 5.0 mustang is amazing, and I definitely want to get one of these in the future. I've driven one, and Ford definitely got the formula right with that one. Even the 2010 4.6L was good, winning most comparison tests with the Camaro SS and Challenger R/T (and even SRT-8). The 5.0L smokes the competition for the price.

Don't get me wrong, I love the G. Maybe I'm just getting bored of it. I've thought about doing some modifications (stillen exhaust, 19inch wheels, etc), but I just can't seem to pull the trigger, especially when that money could go towards a new car. Modifications for the G35 don't seem to add that much power either, unless you go for the supercharger kit, which is ridiculous. A stillen exhaust is nice, but at the end of the day, it still sounds like a V6, because that's what it is.
