The fronts can stay. The rears you can either trim the lips, or remove them completely. I just trimmed mine.

Thanks again Mike, so Should I buy the rear Shields they offer with the kit? Is it just a little trimming, or major?

Welcome.

It's basically just the lip on the shields you trim, it can be done even with a decent set of tin snips. Some even trim the entire shield off completely. Either way is a much easier process than trying to remove and replace (at least based on everyone's experience with the swap).

btw, for the front with the 7.5 wide sport rim, do any of you think that 15mm or 17mm spacer would be enough.

Ok, soo I am all confused about wheel offsets lol, have done some researching, so according to a wheel offset calculator, my new 20" rims have an offset of 38, it says these will be 20mm more toward fender liner. Is this enough to clear the Akebono kit, or will I still need to get a spacer also? I am not too keen on the idea of using spacers, I can see using them on the stock 18" rims for the winter, if I decide to even drive it. The way thing are looking I am going to just stick with stock brakes and go with slotted rotors. Can anyone help me out here, I need to order my brakes by tonight.

Man you just need some all around wheel fitment schooling. Your 20" wheels probably will be more towards the fender liner as they are wider. This however has nothing to do with them clearing the BBK. The BBK is gonna protrude outwards towards the back of the spoke. If your Asanti's were built for your car and not a G37S coupe I'm 99% sure they are not gonna clear. Clearance comes down to the height of the mounting pad (High disc, low disc are a few terms used for mounting pad height). With 3 piece wheels like Asanti's you would get a tall mounting pad and a small outer lip to retain your +38 offset while getting the caliper clearance you need. It's safe to say you'll need spacers for both sets of wheels.

Not to oversimplify, but offset is not everything. The spokes are really the concern. Some 18" wheels that are 8.5" wide with +35 offsets clear the Akebono's just fine. Some are even 8" wide with slightly higher offsets.

If you can get hold of those Asanti's, i suggest using Coz's template. It's pretty accurate.

The Asanti 's are in my basement, I guess it wouldn't hurt to try and measure them up. I really need to get going on the brakes though.

Measure 'em! TireRack sells several 18x8 +40 wheels that fit over the Ake's. There's a good chance your Asanti's will be fine The only time they for sure won't fit over the inner barrel of wheels is if the wheel is only 17".

So on your 20's, i am more than certain they'll clear the inner barrel. The spokes are where the calipers usually snag.

I tried using the damb template, but I think I messed that all up too, theres a lot of room behind the rims, I took some pictures on my phone, but they arent too good, the rims are the AF 122 very thin spokes , if anything I probably need 5mm spacers. Going to try the whole template thing again, do you have any pictures showing how to use the template lol?

Here you go!

p.s. Found this link, although 22", it seems at least that size will fit over the Ake's (the white coupe). You might be okay with it, too.

i had the template and thats what i did in my 20" wheels, my only problem is when I got to print the template i dont think its printing out the right size. it says the scale has to be 1: 1, can' t figure out how to get it to do that. the measurements on it, they show lines and have mm readings, i f i measure they arent what they say on the template, so I assume that its not the right size.

Soo, i think I finally go the template to print the right size, as I measured the spots that are marked and they were the right metric readings. Took a few pictures, kind of close to the spoke, you think if I get a 5mm spacer I will be ok? does the brake kit stick out as far as that template?
