So I tried Dr colorchip to fix some scratches....
I was pretty impressed with the results! I went crazy fixing all the little chips and scratches in my 50k+ miles 2007 G35. Here is one spot in particular that used to really stand out at the bottom of the drivers door:
Before:
After:
You can still see the faintest outline of the scratch, but if you didn't know it was there, you wouldn't see it. Basically you apply the paint and then smear it flat with your thumb...wait for it to dry...then use the supplied cotton towel and some finisher they give you to wipe away the excess paint.
Happy with the quality for $29!

I think the key is to prep the surface (removing all the wax residue, etc...) and wipe the newly applied paint immediately until it is smooth and flat and then give it ample time to dry. Then, using their finisher liquid, you can't rub or you will take off your new paint..just gotta wipe gently until the excess comes off.

Your paint code is listed on the drivers side door jamb.
Good luck!

Soundmike,
Too funny! I am same way. I noticed swirl marks on my car new, day I took delivery of it. I can point out where every bird poop has landed on my car. Even waxed with NuFinish, clear coat still takes a hit every time. I have tried using NuFinish Scratch Doctor on a few spots to see if mild polish will remove stain from clear coat but it doesn't. Maybe one has to use more aggressive polish to remove stain but paint is so thin on these cars I fear polishing it too aggressively will burn right through clear coat. So I just live with slight discoloration of clear coat. To be honest, to see spots, you have to look in the sunlight, at the right angle or if you are in a garage well lit with neon shop lamps, those lights show every imperfection.
What pisses me off is my 2000 chevy truck has clear coat that is way thicker, with dried drips off corners of hood. When a bird $hits on it, you just wipe it off and no trace of anything is left behind. This was true on my 93 cavalier too. But back then, I think they used oil based paints with lead in them and all sorts of good stuff that made paint finish much more durable. Nowadays, for paint plant emissions reasons, I believe all paint is acrylic (water) based and probably more fragile.

I tried Dr. Colorchip about a month ago on my PG car. It worked really good (not perfect) on the smaller chips. I had a couple of long (1" - 1.5") scratches near the fuel door and it worked OK on those. At certain angles, you can't see the scratch at all. At others, they're still visible, but much improved.
