So my 08 G35 still has belt squeal

I changed the belt. The car was missing the under carriage cover. Replaced that as well. But the damn squeal won't go away. On idle you can't hear it really, but when accelerating you can. I feel like i'm driving a ghettomobile...haha. Should I replace tensioner and how hard it that to do?

I just had the dealer replace mine, and I still get a slight squeal when I shut the car down in my garage.

Its annoying since I paid $200 bucks for them to do it, and I cant get it to replicate every time.

R u sure you retightened the belt fully?

U could always try some WD-40 on the pulleys themselves..

apply some belt dressing on them a couple of times and it might help, btw you dont want to over spray it,

So they changed the tensioner for 200 bucks...parts and labor? That seems pretty good.

Koolyar,
I've tried belt dressing before and it only made it worse and never improved it.

I'm going to try to grease the pulley that I believe is the problem...which is the top left one. The one on passenger side. Hopefully it works

Update: Tried the grease thang...way to hard to get grease anywhere near the pulley. Used Armor All and it worked perfectly for about 15 min then it goes away. Also I think it's the either the tensior pulley or the one to the left of it.

um, you greased the pulley surface with armorall? not a great idea man...hopefully i misunderstood.

take the belt off and inspect it. you could already have a rubbing spot on there causing the noise, or just replace it with a $25 belt from autozone and the squeak might go away, like mine did. i think the OEM belts are more prone to squeaking, but i have no proof of this other than my own experience.

I would probably make sure the pulley and the belt doesn't have any oil/grease contaminants on it, then look to the tensioner if cleaning those items doesn't resolve the problem.

Sorry but I meant $200 for the BELT only.. I bet the tensioner is close to $800 bucks parts and Labor..

I was saying that my belt still squeaks even after the "professionals" changed it.

Yeah as someone else said you may just want to try another belt as its a easy fix especially if you know how to change it.

Its super easy to change and there is a DIY in the well DIY section, and to make it easier our cars come with auto-tensioners so that makes it all the more easier. Pop belt off, put new in swing tensioner back and you're done!

Belt still squeaks because nothing was wrong with them in the first place, or at least they didn't cause the squeaking. Alt bearing, pulley bearing? BTW never use belt dressing on your belts.

^ well if he sprays the belt and it stops squeaking for a while then he knows its the belt and not the pulley or its bearings. Thats how iv checked the belt noise in the past with no problems.

I have changed the belt before. It worked for 2 days then came right back. I've sprayed belt dressing and that crap only makes it worse. I tried 409 on the belt...didn't help. I tried armor all...worked well for a couple hours or so. I'm throwing everything at it..lol. But I did some youtube research and it points to my tensioner not being tight enough. Check it out...
