Saw it on diy, great post i have 47k on my car took them off had oil build up on the inside of them.

Cleaned put it back together and now when in neutral my rpms jump from about 1500 to 2000. Really hurting my gas mileage. Now on the forums they say its going to take about two days for the ecu to reset, i really dont mind waiting but i also herd something about resting the ecu.

I was wondering how easy is it do or should i just ride it out.

After cleaning them i put around 140k today hehe me and gf took a road trip.

When I did mine I just drove for about 30... Let it idle for 5-10 an drove for 10.... It was good the next day.

I noticed my idle right after statring seems to jump higher (2100) before slowly coming down. Car runs fine otherwise.

 

I cleaned my TBs and I had the same RPM oscillating problem a lot of people experience. I was very careful not to disconnect anything, it didn't help. I tried the manual reset using the gas pedal procedure. That stopped the oscillation, but the idle rpm was still high by about 100-200 RPM. Not bad, but it was still noticable when coming to a complete stop or when putting the car into reverse.

Luckily my brother-in-law is a mechanic, he hooked it up to his computer and adjusted the idle to specification. The total procedure took about a one minute, no joke. It was pretty cool, it gave step by step directions, we watched the idle RPM drop right into spec. Good luck with it.

well this sucks went to turn on my car this morning it started idieling at about 2300 rpm fell down to about 1000 i went inside of my house to grab my wallet my check engine light came on...

So right now im going out there disconnect the negative side pump the brakes a couple of times and just leave it for about an hour or so...

My idle has been high since I cleaned my TB. I did all the suggested fixes and nothing has worked.

 

im going to wait out this weekend still the same im calling the dealer i still got warrenty on it just be like idk y its doing this

 

You have to do the idle relearn procedure as listed in the FSM. make sure u do everything exactly as it says. That includes the first step, which is to disconnect and reconnect the harness at the TB's. If you do the procedure wrong, and the idle doesnt change, you have to disconnect and reconnect the TB's harness and do the procedure over again.

no reason to waste your money at a dealer.

 

Here's the section from the maintance manual that details the manual idle relearn procedure. My car still threw a CEL for high idle speed after I succesfully completed this. As I said above, this only cured the oscillating RPM issue, not the high idle RPM. The only way I was able to bring the idle speed into spec (650RPM +/-50) was to hook it up to a computer.

I would think that most modern repair shops could do this for you. The VQ35HR has been around a while and is supported by other programs, not just the Consult-III. My brother-in-law gets software updates once a month for his and the're always adding new engines and procedures.

 

What does cleaning the TB do?

 

These procedures have worked for me on every other VQ i've owned, although i haven't tried it on the G. But it doesn't hurt.

I had the exact same problem. Did the idle relearn, did not cure the high idle issue. Took it to my mechanic, he couldn't get it to reset back to the stock idle. So I finally took it to the dealer who did the relearn under warranty for free. Extended warranty ftw!

 

Also, if it hasn't cured itself by now with all the mileage you've driven, only the dealer who has the consult III can fix the issue. I know because I tried the idle relearn procedure a good 20 times and I knew it was done correctly because I was able to turn off the check engine light and fix the idle loping. But those things never held, soon as I would shut the car off and turn it back on, the idle was back up over 2k rpms.
