I took my car in for an oil change and to have the idle rpm fluctuation (prolly throttle body) looked at.
I got a call saying it was a MAF that had a high output, it was replaced and they are keeping it overnight for a road test..
Does this mean someone will be driving my car around like its a loaner?????? The thought of my baby being driven by someone kinda makes me iffy.... even though I trust the service rep since he's done right by me many times.

I called 10 minutes later and told him to waive it. I felt bad cause I trust the guy, but who the hell knows about the mechanic.... i know its a g35 and not a ferrari, but that valet scene in ferris buelers day off ruined it for me lol

^ good call imo, if there are any problems you can always take it in again. If it aint their car then they wont care how they drive it.

The overnight road test I've seen my dealer do was let the car sit overnight and test drive it in the morning.

Since I've worked at dealerships all my life, I can say that it's not uncommon for a tech or shop foreman to take a car home for the night. Let me also say that the tech that would drive a customers car home for the night would usually be the guy that was actually trying to fix an intermittent or complex issue. He will also be one of the more advanced and trusted techs and not the lot boy. He will not race on the freeway, get lumber at Home Depot or pick up hookers. He will drive the car like a normal driver to either replicate the problem or satisfy himself that it is indeed fixed. He will not get grease on the seats, carpet or steering wheel. He will drive this car as though it was his own.
If you don't believe that the dealership that is servicing your car has someone that will perform in this manner, you're at the wrong place.

My poor wife never understands why I refuse to valet park my car . . . EVER!
It's kinda like the automobile equivalent of what 'Jaws' did for swimming in deep, dark water.
Got the car back today.... scratches on the door from a valet parking it too close to other cars, and a scuffed up mirror.... which all came out with a polish on the spot. Greasy steering wheel as well. Other than that, everything has been fine so far *knock on wood**

The service rep did a good job, I am happy... that pos 7at really takes getting used to. Feels like it's engine braking every time I let my foot off the gas... wtf?

Btw does anyone know why my mpg display went down to 200 miles when I picked up my car? Does a ecu reset and a new mass air flow sensor do that? After I filled up and drove around, it went back upto normal

^ probably cause they idled the car a lot for testing with many start/stop and driving within the small area, thus the gas was being used without putting on any miles so the miles to empty came down, should be normal after you put a few miles on her.
I spoke too soon... dammed fluctuating rpm is back. Why they couldn't clean the throttle body too is beyond me. Ill have to do it my self now ugghhh

I took my Xterra in for a fluctuation problem (not throwing codes). They kept it two days and ran about 1/2 tank of gas out of it. Got it back on empty.
